What to you is the most annoying phrase or expression in English? I think it may be a bit dated now but for me it is the expression "to put the world to rights" because it doesn't really mean what it says. On the face of it it means "to solve all of the world's problems" whereas all it really means is "to TALK ABOUT solving all of the world's problems" (as though talking was as good as doing: in fact "talk is cheap").
