Yes I saw the famous pyramids of Giza and the great sphynx. And lots of amazingly well preserved temples and wall drawings and sculptures and mummies that dated back to 1500BC. And I went on a camel too. My one was kinda naughty and every time the guide slackened his hold on the reins he headed for the nearest bush and yanked off and big branch of leaves to munch on for the journey. They're lovely animals with a cool personality that kidna says "yeah ok I know you want me to go but I'll do it when I'm good and ready"!

The one thing though that I hadn't anticipated was the enormous poverty of the area. People living on straw and pallets for beds and not having any proper machinery to till the agricultural fields. And many houses not even having roofs on them.

Another factor that I personally found quite hard to manage was the high temperature of the place. Every day it was over 40 Degrees Celcius and felt very much like being in an oven. The mind boggles at how the nacient Egyptian workers were able to work in such intense heat, let alone, be capable of building such amazing wonders in architectural construction.

Pretty much the whole of Egypt outside Cairo is poverty stricken. People in the developed world like us don't know how good we have it here. It's not cute in any way.
