Need a fellow water bearers advice

If you were working for a franchise and the owner whom hired you starting flirting with you openly, how would you handle the situation? His preference is African american women and he's Caucasian in his late 40's. His girlfriend works alongside him so i'm sure she notices, it bothers me that even my employees flirt with me both male and female. Keeping my distance and minding my business seems to only draw them closer, however upon mentioning it is not only unprofessional but constantly bringing up his girlfriend he just speaks sarcasm and stupid jokes. How would you handle such a situation, leave? wait to find another job?

I would "politely" tell him to stop. If that doesn't work, I would tell him to stop in front of his gf. LOL

Well u r attractive so that happens lol and u r also an Aquarius (magnetic ) so that happens but if he doesn't stop I would look for another job or either report him for harassment and call corporate headquarters u r doing the right thing being standoffish and ignoring but they don't get the hint that way or u can always lie abdominal say ur gay lol

Unfortunately, this is probably not his 1st rodeo. You're not the 1st woman he's ever sexually harassed, nor will you be the last.

Of course you can take the high road by complaining to corporate and then telling him to shove a fork up his azz, but unfortunately, there's a lot of politics in the workplace, and you'd be the 1 most likely to get fired or replaced 1st, not him.

I'm not saying that he won't face any consequences if you do report to his superiors b/c doing that sends the subliminal message that standing up for yourself doesn't ever work. I don't want to send the message that it's pointless to speak up b/c of the low probability of action being taken against the aggressor

The good thing about jobs is that you can always find another one. You have every right to work in a sexual-harassment-free environment. In every building owned by a fortune 500 company, there are those clever little signs posted on doors or in handbooks about sexual harassment policies. There's also a listed protocol of what to do in the event that it happens to you by an employee on any level, management or below. Follow that protocol. But do so with the understanding that you may or may not lose your job OR be treated unfairly going forward b/c of it. Managers will sometimes put you in sabotaging situations that give them legal and justifiable reasons to fire you. It can be something stupid like "Oh she clocked in 1 minute late" or "Oh her performance is just not up to par." They'll do that when they perceive you as a threat. They do that to cover their azz

Also understand & take into consideration that your complaint may very well get this man fired. Some people don't have the conscious for it, and so they internalize the harassment and try to justify within themselves that it's no big deal...that kind of thinking is what a person wanting to sexually harass you wants you to have and believe

The next time he corners you, take out your cell phone and record the audio. Push record and put the phone in your pocket or in a location close by that he cannot see from a specific angle. Evidence is always the key! Don't say anything to his partner or any other employees b/c that will backfire. If you're going to complain, do it anonymously to us or to his superiors. Good luck

krysrenee's advise is spot on. Harassment is a real and scary thing in the work place but there are laws to help protect people from this. Anything that makes another feel uncomfortable whether it's verbal or physical is harassment and needs to be documented. Make a log book of everything and the audio recording is a good idea-

Mystified I think i'll voice my concerns once more, if he tries again I will be calling and quitting.

Then I scroll down and see krys's reply and she's right fired seems like what could happen more than likely since he doesn't own the franchise he just pays to use the name. I will however take all of this into consideration as I take notes. It's good to have so many good people such as you all to give me great advice. I couldn't tell my parents this it almost seems crazy to bring up, I will start looking for another job. I begin to think of what could go right or wrong and the first thing that popped in my head was mistreatment. Just thinking of going back is dreadful, but I make sure that I am scheduled in reasonable time and that i'm not the last one to leave. Documenting what has managed to stick in my brain and will begin searching for a new job tomorrow. Thanks guys! 😄
