Quite peculiar coming from a younger generation...He has a cap moon and cancer rising. Im not concerned or anything. i Want him to believe in what he wants to. Any advice on how to handle this as he grows older? im not religious myself, but hes very determined to prove what he believes is the truth, and i wouldn't him him to bump heads with someone who is of faith and end up making enemies.

let it go - it's ok - like @Capz said - he will figure it all out later - that is his Cap Moon - I was the exact same way but mine started prior to age 9 - I wasn't trying to convince other people however

if it gets overbearing then he needs to somehow understand the idea of freedom of religion - there are books for everything

lol he will believe in god later

Don't bet on it. Our kid knew from a very young age there was no God (in his mind).....he is now going on 19 and still don't believe

Good for him to have his own views I say

I have taught him about a Universal power which he seems to be curious about, but an omnipotent God....no

He loathes religion...he has the intelligence to see through it

one day he will get fired or his main goals fail, and he will ask to himself ? why the fuck i'm even here.

generally people who doesnt believe have always been supervised by something. but when you will be alone with yourself what will happen

You missed my point completely. He has an open mind in a Universal power. He knows that healing works and prayers are answered....that is the way he was raised. I am not religious, but have huge faith in life....i am full of optimism and my prayers are always answered.

I don't need a religion to tell me how to live a wonderful life....i need love and a belief in a higher power

Call it what you want.

Religion has nothing to do with it

I think I'd be a little disappointed in the fact that he's already come to that conclusion at such a young age.

Not because I want him to believe in a God, but because I find that people who have their minds made up about this topic are often narrow-minded.

I'd want my kid to recognize the possibility that there very well may be something (or things) out there that are larger than ourselves.

I'd want them to understand that just because our technology is not yet advanced enough to prove whether these things do or don't exist, doesn't mean we should completely write it off as impossible.

One of humanities biggest downfalls is the fact that we are so self righteous.

We struggle to view the world outside of the narrative that we've set for ourselves.
Aren't you amazing? Where did you find that article?

Does he have an actual belief at this point now though? Or he just doesn't believe in God?

Speaking as a Gemini, I was vocal about my lack of faith in God from a young age as well.. Although I did not have a different belief at the time, I just didn't believe in God. As a child I used to attend church with my family and even at that young of an age I managed to ruffle the feathers of the heavily religious with the things that came out of my mouth. I didn't agree with things they would say, they just did not seem plausible to me or resonate with any sort of feeling with in myself.. Needless to say, we didn't continue to attend church for much longer.. Lol

Same. I would point out completely incoherent stuff "teachers" taught us (8-9 y old kids) about god and they would yell at me as if I had done something wrong by using my brain. I think many people can't stand kids having opinions.

*I think this kid should learn to be open minded and respectful, but having critical thinking skills is wonderful.

*Religion is for those who are scared of going to hell (father i have sinned)*

Spirituality is for those who have already been there*

Huge difference
Disagree. I don't believe there is hell. I think it's here now. And we living it like a job. So when we retire - we are free of worries. Forever until our soul sent back for whatever reason.

Believing in God is supposed to prevent people from making grave mistakes.

Like I said - I still don't understand what makes us breath, move and think?

And WHO made us as living?

If it's not God - any other suggestions?

To me, self righteousness comes from ignorance and too strict a religious upbringing - IOW "my way is right and the only way because that is all I know" - which in turn IMHO comes from being uneducated and sheltered so to speak - so many people don't step outside their box to see the rest of the world and all it's wonders. If they did, their mind might open and not only be blown but they will come to realize just how small we really are individually and as a collective for that matter. It's humbling.

Try making your point in an well argumented manner. Use facts, different perspectives and logic. Btw, im totally not religious but his statement is invalid because unprovable. It is based on a belief, which makes it equvalent to the belief that god exists, which is as invalid.

His statement is his perception, his truth, so therefore is very valid

I would guide him to be spiritual, not religious (because he doesn't believe in God). He will need an outlet, so encourage him to find what he believes in (not what he doesn't believe in).

And remember to teach him the importance of "it doesn't matter what people believe in, what matters is how *you* treat others."
Yes

And to remember he is not you...he has a right to his own thoughts

Too young to really worry at this point. It's good though that he has a mind of his own(: that means he wont listen to what anyone tells him and goes with how he feels. He's his own person, which is a good thing. If you wish for him to believe in God, dont force it on him. Just teach him what you can about God, and you had done your part, cause at the end of the day when he gets older he's going to believe what he wants and pushing religion on him , in my belief, is just going to push him away.

I agree.

in the belief department an individual changes skin several time in a life time. some find and lose God again.

specially: what you hate today with fever can be your love tomorrow.

(but it's less likely to start as a human hater and become a human lover.

still must be possible every now and then, here and there, one in a 1000)
