The way geminis see love just blew my mind once again...
BTW, my gem friend is often perceived as a playa (he slept with like 40 girls over the past 2 years) but he's actully emotionally committed to this gal Shea who doesn't want to be exclusive with him. I think they met a year ago and my gem friend recently decided that he only wanted to see her, even if she continues seeing other people. It just fascinates me.
I have a Gemini best friend, male, who still loves madly his ex, after almost a year, even though it turned out she had been a red flag. And the way she ended that 2,5 year relationship had been purely cruel (via SMS). I had a gem bf in the past. I think he was similar to your friend. He loved with all his heart but for some reason girls did not feel the same...
I was his 2nd gf and his 1st gf moved in and got engaged with another guy a week after they broke up... (obviously she didn't love him that much to be able to detach that fast. her new guy was a singer. he said that she was starstruck and just felt for that new guy like that...Ironically, his first gf came back to him 6 months later but he refused to take her back...)
When I was with him I didn't feel I was in love with him, but I did feel he might be the one because I never felt the kind of love before... It did hit me one day that I might not meet anyone like him after we broke up, that realization did make me feel very sad... I wish I didn't take him for granted.

I can relate to the "needy" part because my ex wanted to be around me all the time. He lived with his first ex, and he wanted to move in with me after we just dated for a few months... It did cause more frictions when we were together all the time.
I didn't understand the way my ex loves, but now I feel I have a lot more respect and understanding for that, especially from discussions with my gem friend. My ex never explained to me the way he loves so it felt suffocating. Now that I am seeing a gemini love just an observer, a friend, I feel I am able to see the beauty of this kind of love... I now think it is amazing
