Apologizing is not important to me
Dude I'm unapologetic too and people can keep all their apologies. So what. Like BLVCisBVCK said, why the whole post for it?
I agree with stupidity of holding grudges and waiting for The Words ‘I am sorry’?
And what forgiveness means IF you won’t forget?
If not harm was meant and the person was completely unaware of what they've done I will give a second chance, tell them what they did and ask them to not do it again. And I am most definitely hoping to get an apology but will never ask for one. I want to see if they're sorry or regretful, or if they're not, or if their pride gets in the way of admiting faults and making amends, instead of forcing someone to act in a way I wish they would.
If they don't show remorse or regret for what they've done... then it's open season for me.
To me a sincere apology is acknowledging they have done something wrong and is truly sorry for it. That may be a first step to if I'm going to forgive them and let them back in my life or not, depending on what they have done ofc. If they're not sorry and remorseful about it then why bother. 🤷

I agree with op. But I also know my brain is a little broken from my crazy religious upbringing where an apology was to absolve you of all blame and put the responsibility on the wronged to be ‘christ like’ and forgive. Which is some manipulative bs. But I also get not everyone is like that so I am learning to accept apologies if it seems sincere.

It all catches up to you eventually. Call that karma or whatever you want. It’s especially obvious this time of year during the holidays. Parents who maintained good relationships with their kids have a full house.
I’ve noticed some shitty parents make the best grandparents because they matured and learned from their mistakes and are ready for their do-over.
I'm always willing to apologize, when I know I have done wrong. I will not apologize if someone is trying to manipulate it out of me.

Posted by _ixi_For starters and as a disclaimer: A person's viewpoint is their viewpoint. I've no interest in changing their mind.
With that said I can end up saying from a psychological and community management perspective that an inability to apologize is a sign of an underdeveloped ego/weak ego.
When someone is reasonably healthy the reasons why someone cannot or refuses to apologize *usually* (but not always) come down to at a minimum 2 reasons:
1)A lack of care about the other person or the relationship to take on the emotional discomfort of owning a mistake and apologizing for it...
and/or
2) The belief (whether valid or not) that our apology won't be of consequence for some reason.
Everyone at somepoint will fall into the above categories ...most don't stay there universally though.
The third case is way less common as it is anti-social but the one that most applies to those who absolutely refuse to give apologies (or accept them) is that the action of apologizing is too psychologically threatening for them to do so more than likely.
Offering sincere apologies imply an acknowledgment that a person can harm someone unfairly but *has* hurt them. That recognition can and often does elicit shame. Conversely those who cannot accept apologies have a difficulty in the other direction...accepting/acknowledging they have been harmed (aka vulnerable to being harmed by another).
In any case once that shame is felt and then pushed down that's when it becomes toxic and leads to all of the greatest defense mechanisms being triggered (oftentimes subconsciously) like:
Externalizing any blame for the harm done on others or circumstances
Disputing basic facts
Or attacking the other person or people involved
Among other tactics to make the person feel as if they are justified in their wrongness.

I'd like to add with the first reason,is basically acknowledging the impact on the other party and attempting to repair the rupture in the relationship. It's saying I care about how you think and feel and wish to put effort into addressing the issue we are having.
It's not actually about assigning blame. It's about recognition of the other side of things.
In a heated situation is better to step back from both perspectives 3rd party view to understand the situation on both sides and re-enter the issue from that perspective.
With the second, full agree too. It's definitely a lack of consideration and full of ego.
I have seen many many people take this approach and wonder why thier personal relationships suck or are none existent. Unless you are a total hermit living off the land, you will have some reliance on others and the health of the relationship with them will have a impact on your own life....lol whether you like it or not. We are social creatures and interconnected.
P.S. I'm totally cool with and have seen people not apologize and silently correct the problem and letting the other party know as such, without confrontation or admitting fault. A nice middle ground. Besides, Actions have more value then empty words any day.

No one should feel shame for ignorance. Live and learn. Not like you were born knowing better right?
Nor should someone feel shamed by actions that hurt no one. This includes another's pride. You don't owe someone a apology for this unless it's been clearly COMMUNICATED and IS A REASONABLE request and agreed upon.
It takes strength, courage, and wisdom to admit when you are wrong and face that. It should be respected when someone does that. Don't punish and run things into thier face. It's teaching them not to or...that you are a crap person🙃
I miss the old family sitcoms where they would both admit were they made a mistake hug it out and come up with a solution to handle the issue. It was cheesy as shit but the way they addressed it was solid.
Yea I agree. Eventually they will either be a rotting corpse, or ash anyway. Then even later, the last person who still remembered them will die too. That is the best kind of apology imo. Words mean nothing.
I think the reason that you feel like an apology is not needed is because you don't trust that people are being genuine even if they do apologize on their own merits. Sometimes that's the case, but not always.
I also believe that you've been deeply hurt before and the pain was probably so extensive that even if you did believe the apology was coming from a genuine place it would still mean nothing because the damage has already been done.
Apologies are tricky because you never know if they're doing it for you or doing it for themselves.
I understand this perspective, but I also understand what it likely signifies, which is unresolved trauma.

Apologising to me makes me feel instantly warm and happy, because I see it as a sign that the clouds have passed, it's sunshine again! Like compliments, it doesn't matter if they are "sincere" or just "a social thing" at that moment. They do their work, as nature intended.

To those saying that apologising makes the giver feel better about themselves....that's often not the case. I personally feel humbled and remorseful, before, during and after apologising.
Especially if they are reading your signals that you distrust their intentions and sincerity........that could make them feel awful, so watch your thoughts! Your thoughts say more about yourself, your nature, your personality than about the person apologising.

Technically I was messing around saying I'll eat the butt of that veal if gemitati invite me over for Thanksgiving. However, though, I rarely turn down food and would be more than willing to try anything i havent tried before food wise. I don't think I can stomach meat too much anymore these days. I'm trying to go vegetarian.

Well that is very admirable! I have tried to go veg in the past and had a very difficult time with it, but I'm an animal lover so I feel like a walking contradiction. That's awesome that you are giving that a go and I wish you the very best with that 🙂

Hahaha what difficulty you had with it? I'm not saying it's easy even I slip every now and then. I still frequent the chicken shack for some good ole southern fried chicken every once in a while.

Just my personal view.
I have never cared if someone apologized to me for something. Either I am going to react negatively to something I dislike or not care. I’m okay moving past things after a disagreement. Apologies do nothing for me. I will even go so far as to say that I have told others they were trying to be manipulative by asking for an apology. It is just as weird to me for someone to outright ask someone for an apology. I don’t feed others egos.
I can’t vibe with someone who cannot restore their own emotions. People walking around needing apologies from parents for things that happened decades ago. Learn some self-healing.
