Am I bad for not having my parents on Facebook?

Hi

The only social media I have is Facebook but for some reason I like to keep some things private and that's why I don't have my parents on Facebook. I wouldn't like them being nosy and knowing everything I do or reading everything that comes out of my mind. Facebook is almost like a diary to me.

My dad just sent me a friend request and I don't know what to do. I feel bad because he's my dad and I shouldn't ignore him but I'm a really private person. Also I'm a little angry because my mom keeps telling me that he's disrespectful towards her, telling her that she's old and stuff.

What should I do—? I want to accept but once I do it my privacy will be gone. My dad will know everything I do and I will have to add my mom too since I want to be fair with both.

I'm an adult by the way.

Most people don't take the time to do this, but you can manually assign your family into a specific audience group and by doing this you could highly restricted content that they are able to see without it impacting the way you were posting and sharing with people before. The best part is they won't even know that you did that. They'll just think you don't post that often or that you didn't fill in that info area. If you do this then you don't look like a bad guy for not accepting your family, but you also still get to maintain your social media life that you had before.

Here's the pics on how you could do that.
