Greetings, DXP people.

Given the sweeping interest that many young people have in Socialism, do you identify with Socialist politics?

I ask because of the polls and documents out there indicating that a large number of young people prefer Socialist policies over free and open markets.

Discuss.

What blows my mind is this pervasive, irrational fear in the minds of many Americans who have been brainwashed enough to equate socialism with communism. Most developed countries in the west have some form of socialism to varies degrees.

So before you start spewing your ignorance and at hominem attacks which arose from said ignorance, do educate yourself on that matter.

It's the less violent version of the same platform.

Who pays for roads? EMS? LEO? Firefighters?

Surely you don't think private entities keep them afloat?

People who work for a living have to keep the tax money flowing to the government coffers.

It is the taxpayer who finances all of that, professor.

I just wish the Socialist Justice Wackos would pay attention to what is happening in Venezuela.

The people there are literally breaking into the nation's zoos, chasing down and attacking the animals, and taking them home for dinner.

Socialism is a failure when one sees people chopping up Flamingos from the zoo to eat.

Hardly. Those bills passed to “allot” taxpayer monies are voted on by the people, not the govt.

So.. let's say Medicare for all is voted in by the people. Is that socialist health care?

I don’t think 90% of people actually know what socialism actually entails. I bet if they were told that they’d no longer have a 401k with socialism, they’d run from it

Can you explain? I don't really understand 401k as it is even though I contribute to mine.

That’s not the people. That’s government passing laws that the people didn’t vote on, government officials did.

That isn't socialism, thats just good government policies looking after its people but inside a capitalist system (liberal policies). In some countrys there are still private company's doing the work, making profit off the job, on tax payer dollars. Socialism would be if all of the private corporations fell into government ownership, and people are no longer working for themselves, they are working for government. Its not really a good system, people don't want to work for no returns or to have their returns given to the reigns of the government to do as they please. The government is always corrupt, wtf would we give them more power over us than they already have.

Btw the current capitalist model is just as bad, basically giving rich corporations the same power that communism gives the government. At least there is an opportunity to work your way up in this model.

Reinforcing my earlier observation! To simplify a somewhat complex subject matter...while all ducks are birds; not all birds are ducks!

With that said, if one insist on claiming that capitalism has no blood on its hands, you are gravely misguided!

That's what Dazed was trying to say. Money goes to the state coffers via taxation, which is then used to maintain the country's infrastructure. Socialism at its very basic.

Eh, you are calling a golf ball a tennis ball here.

Taxation goes back centuries.

I define a government's inclinations toward socialism based on the number of programs it provides to the governed.

ACA is Europe's Socialist Medicine program, and it's bad medicine.

The more involved the US taxpayer's money becomes entangled in needless government spending (waste), the more likely it will be a socialist state.

We aren't quite at the bad levels that Europe is in for socialist programs and the massive debts that come with it, but we are inching our way there (sadly).

The USA is trying to overturn Maduro and his Socialist regime.

Before the Venezuelans suffered through Maduro, they had all kinds of Socialist wackos like Chavez ruling over them.

Before Socialism, Venezuela was a flourishing economic power which used natural resources to bolster their economy.

You should educate yourself on what Venezuela was like before the Socialists took over.

P.S. Socialism has failed every time it has been tried.

How you figure capitalism hasn't?

I find it very hilarious when people point out how socialism has failed, while completely ignoring the various ways capitalism has failed or is failing.

I think a lot of people don't seem to understand that while a system may seem to work on its own in theory, it cannot work in isolation, in practice.

True or false?

Image Not Found

False, and history proves it.

The USA was founded as a Constitutional Republic. The only thing the US government is technically supposed to finance through the taxpayer is the military.

However, over the years the US Constitution has been "adjusted" by socialists to make the taxpayers finance even more government programs than the Founding Fathers originally intended.

Without the socialists, the US would probably be even more successful economically.

Anyone? OP? Supes?

Difference between Socialism and Democratic Socialism?

Is Sanders a Democratic Socialist?

He says he is. Is he not as far as his policies go?

He is not. And what you are describing is not Democratic Socialism either.

Sanders is a social democrat and that is what you are describing as well.

Social democracy strives to improve upon, and make up for the failings of, capitalism.

Democratic Socialism still believes in government ownership of the means of production.

Somewhere, the actual, classical definition of Democratic Socialism was mixed up with social democracy.

I'm not sure if it's purposeful or not.

Can I ask you this?

Do you want a check on capitalism in general? As it pertains to the rich basically governing the country.

What is that called?

The state governments are responsible for that.

In Florida, there is no state income tax on area residents since tourism and other similar businesses generate enough tax revenue to sustain what you described.

In other states, they choose to tax their citizens to pay for stuff.

If socialists had their way in Florida (like they nearly did with Gillum trying to become governor), there would be new state income taxes in Florida (and ultimately piss everyone with a brain off).
