OMG, I swear they were talking about this at Metro FM (national radio station) today. But they had more like, have you started saving for retirement & at what age should one start to think about such saving?

And it turned into an interesting topic between different racial groups. The whites believed in starting the moment you get your 1st wages etc. The blacks disagreed with that stating that family responsibility wont allow such "selfishness"- mama should get a new house, etc & planning for your own future should come way after you've "repayed" n thanked your parents for all they did for you. It was an interesting debate. The radio dj (black guy) said that's why most blacks never accomplish much (success wise) compared to other races cause we're always looking back (family situation) & not forward. All money get spent making the family okay, while other races use their own money venturing into business partnerships, etc. That I get, but most black don't come from well to do families & usually the parents sacrifise a lot to send their kids to university while neglecting their homes, etc. Most white kids (at least here) dont have the stress of building nice homes for their parents & taking care of family responsibility hence the so called success over us.

Sorry to derail & going on a rant, my call didnt go through at that show lol.

To answer your OP- until I'm old & incapable of doing my job. I love working lol, keeps me busy- cant stand sitting on my arse doing nothing of purpose.

I personally don't care what's said about black people in general cause I know my people are the "do it yourself" kind of people. People in Africa especially, don't need the government to have homes (they build their own mud houses, straw houses & shacks). They don't need the government to eat (if there's a patch of soil, they plant or collect wild plants to eat etc).

Exactly. Which is why I can't understand why people get so up in arms when blacks refer to themselves ethnically as African-American. To be honest I don't think it's the best term, but so many of Black American cultural norms have both African and American roots. The subtleties are sometimes hard to recognize, but they are there.

I notice ratchet seems to be a favorite term among non-American. Haha. Who would have thought. I will let you know what I see out their. I may be going downtown to view the firework show. Always some ratchedness there.

So, what would you guys rather be called? I always find it really funny when other black people refuse to be associated with Africa because 1. Africans also don't wanna be associated with them too because they seem to lack the things we value most ie. humility & respect (to name just a few) 2. They "reject" Africa in order to do what? Embrace countries where they are not particularly liked that much, are seen as uncivilised because of how differently & loudly they talk etc & are seen as freeloaders. You reject the only one place that embodies all the things that you are that others cant stomach about you, but fully embrace places where you're laughed at behind your back by the majority (I cant believe how many racist websites there are out there). Black people really have no pride. Anyways, there are more African-Americans now living in Africa & they fit right in. We love & accept them cause our thick lips & wide noses look just like theirs. Ok, I'm done with this lol, I hope you're having a great time wherever you are.

I'm comfortable with either black or African-American. I find them both fitting. I think it's an individual thing. There is so much strange tension between blacks. I have had both Africans and West Indians shun me simply for being American. But I have also met those who were not into such pettiness. I'm the same, I take people on a case by case basis. I don't judge people by their race, ethnicity, or culture, because its not the best gauge of a person.

BTW did enjoy my day yesterday. No unusual Ratchedness to report unfortunately. Haha.
