I'm going to buy a car soon and idk what to buy. There's too many cars out there it hurts. I don't want a silly SUV like Nissan. I was considering an used Mercedes with no more than 30k mileage but I feel like with the work it might need done I'd might as well consider a new one. I don't even know how to go about not ending up with a lemon. I just want a heavy car with an automatic breaking system that's black, under 40k and not a truck or sedan. You're all old, give me insight ty.

And please don't nag me about the reliability of Toyotas. I'm too young to settle for that shit rn.

I was told to consider a Volvo... but they look hideous ?

Go drive everything

I didn't know anything about cars ...I didn't even know what I liked and didn't like...after literally visiting almost every dealership in town I finally bought a Ford Fusion - I found a certified pre-owned lease return so it only had a few thousand miles on it and came with extended warranty etc.

I thought I wanted a VW before I started driving everything so you never know

You need to research the maintenance costs as well. Anytime you get a used BMW or Mercedes, unless you know someone whom can do it for you, the oil change fees are usually 150 to 200. Whether or not the mileage, most European cars require preventative maintenance that is costly. They are good cars, but require a lot more monetarily for up keep.

I would suggest a VW.

What year Fusion?

I will tell you right now, out of the many cars I have had, the Fusion that I bought new off the lot had the MOST issues, mechanically.

It's a 13 I think

I am starting to have some electrical issues - but luckily a lot of the issues with that year had been resolved already before I bought it. And everything has been fixed under warranty so far

I've had to take it in for quite a few recalls too

Yea, be very careful. The transmission is also bad on these cars. It has an issue with the torque converter, that causes that "jump" when shifting eventhough it was an automatic. I had mine fixed, and a year later, the same issue popped up.

I am not opposed to them, but I would have to know what model you are looking into to give you a better opinion.

I honestly, would look into Kia. I know that name usually inspires some cringes, but over the last 5 years, they have really built up their quality, and many of the cars out perform even Honda. They also are given out insane manufacturer warranties.

I will never, ever, buy a Ford, EVER again.

In the 6 years I owned it, I had the crankshaft break, the torque converter, miscellaneous interior problems (electric dashes/radio go out), Shifter knob break, door hand break, CV joint, Transmission, etc.. all in a car with less than 70K miles on it over the course of the 6-7 years I owned it.

hate to break the news to you, but volvos are great cars, and seem to have what you are looking for.

heavy, i don't know what automatic breaking system is, but if i need to slow down fast i change to manual mode and downshift. mine is turbo charged so it's quick enough for me, the only issue i have is it's a wagon and the turning radius is terrible. i don't mind it though because i wanted the cargo space.

they are not exactly cheap though, especially the nicer xc90.

the other thing is, with any luxury vehicle, you should probably anticipate and plan for luxury repair costs. i'm not looking forward to taking mine in.

i would buy another one in a heartbeat, but not a new one, mostly because i put a lot of wear and tear into my vehicles.

i also wouldn't drive a vw unless you really wanted to learn about car problems. i drove a bunch when i was younger because i was dedicated to repairing them myself, and spent a lot of time working on them. all of the things that drew me to vw are no longer in the cars they produce now. they are not as easy to work on, require special tools, and don't seem to be as reliable as they used to.

not to mention the fact that the company fraudulently reported their emissions results, i just wouldn't want to support that type of business practice.
