i think memes are not-that-slowly driving society into stupidity.
people share memes because the approval they get from others gives them a quick and easy shot of dopamine. people appreciate memes because they are funny/easy to understand and relatable. if gives them a quick shot of dopamine as well.
problem is that memes crop up everywhere, over and over again- that's what defines them as memes. repetition is the heart and soul of brainwashing. and memes, being that they are basically micro-advertisements, they do the thinking for you. they either reinforce a pre-existing notion you had, or introduce a new concept. but they are so short and simple, by nature there cannot be deeper contemplation of what they address.
there are more political ones, and ones that seem to have nothing at all to do with ideology. the latter group is more dangerous. humor is used as a primer for brainwashing and covertly subliminal messaging gets deeper into the psyche and is harder to defend against. it's easy to question an overt propaganda message, but when something is hidden it can slip past anyone's mental defenses.
yes, and we have a system set up in social media where people serve to program their associates by sharing these me-me-me-memes. it creates a culture where conformity and minimal critical thinking are nearly absolute.
this imo is the biggest danger of social media. even if you're aware of it you can't do much to avoid the impact on you, short of abstaining entirely from the interwebz. repetition is the heart and soul of brainwashing.

Yep. Life is truly turing into the matrix, or into avatar
I predict 500 to 1000 years into the future (assuming humans continue to progress in this direction) or near the time of our planets natural death our memories, emotions, thoughts, and spirits will be virtually copied to a pretend yet perfect and immortal dimension that fits within the scale of an atom. Or maybe life is already just that. Who knows?

Posted by AquasticIt would be like the real original you ceased to exist, but the virtual copy that is and feels exactly like the person you truly are lives on.Posted by Soul

Lets say the original you was unconscious and you were in a room and the door was open giving you the option to escape, but the door would then close and the real original and naturally birthed you would wake up and die slowly from starvation could you do it?click to expand

Posted by AquasticIts obviously fictional, but you wake up as a copy of yourself. Let's say in the form of a robot. You feel exactly like your original self, all your memories and emotions are there, and you understand exactly what just happened. Your original self won't however. Eventually the original you will wake up alone and confused, strapped to a medical table, then slowly die like that. The copy of you will forever know this as a memory however, and you have 30 seconds to chose wether you leave the room or you both get trapped. If the copy of you doesn't leave it will forever live trapped in an air tight room along side the corpse of the original you.Posted by SoulPosted by AquasticIt would be like the real original you ceased to exist, but the virtual copy that is and feels exactly like the person you truly are lives on.Posted by Soul
