Thirsty? Then you're dehydrated! Drink more water! ? I have downloaded an app about a month ago to remind me to drink water and to help me keep track of how much water I drink. It's recommended I drink 2,377 mL a day (sometimes I go over.) I feel more energized, I am less hungry (so I actually feel like I'm losing weight), my SKIN! OMG! My skin is GLOWING!

Downside? I relieve myself (practically clear in color) every half an hour or so. That's rough when you're at work and you feel everyone is keeping track of your restroom visits. ?

At first, my skin broke out and looked irritated when I began my water journey, but I think that's because my body was flushing out "toxins." Now, my skin is soft and shiny.

So this is my public service announcement to encourage you all to DRINK MORE WATER! In a world of sugary drinks, coffee, and alcohol- it's so easy to not get enough just-water!

I'm probably going to aim for 3,785 mL (1 gallon) and see how I feel. But for now, I feel FABULOUS! *hair flick*

Sorry to burst your bubble but drinking too much water flushes essential electrolytes out of your system. The human body really only needs to drink about 64 oz (1900ml) daily. That includes water found in other liquids and in food.

If you're still thirsty, check electrolytes and blood sugar.

http://www.onemedical.com/blog/live-well/daily-water-intake/
I'm pretty sure that OP is not talking about extreme amounts of water. Throwing off electrolyte balance takes a lot of water. Water intoxication is pretty rare unless one has extreme drinking habits.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/features/water-intoxication#1

"It takes about 6 liters of water to kill a 165-pound person, according to a YouTube video recently released by the American Chemistry Society. Surprisingly, death by water, or water intoxication as it’s officially known, happens quite a lot. It’s common among young people who challenge themselves to “water drinking contests,” or athletes who mistakingly over-hydrate while training, Scientific American reported."

A gallon a day is extreme, unless a person is doing high intensity training.

1.5-2 liters a day is plenty to stay hydrated

It's based on body weight always. Hydration needs of one person would not be the same for another.

YES! When I go to restaurants, for example, I just ask for water and I skip the sugary options. That helps me reach my recommended amount.

There are SO MANY out there, so a bit of exploring is great to see which suit your needs and style . ☺️

I chose one called "Plant Nanny" because, honestly, it is very cute. You get to grow plants as you drink water yourself. It's a fun motivator and a great visual to demonstrate how well I'm watering myself.

But for real, i like how disconnected we've become. Needing an app to tell you to drink water.

Idiocracy in the making.
SERIOUSLY

I was just telling my coworker that as I shared the app. Typically, I truly DO forget to drink water because (as others have posted) it's just not fun to hydrate with water. I would go an entire day without even drinking 1000mL! That's not NEARLY enough!

I used to say, "if I'm thirsty - then I'll drink," not realizing that if I'm thirsty, then I'm already dehydrated.

The water app is one of the better uses of my cellphone. Sad regarding social commentary? Definitely. True on a practical level? Absolutely.

I could drink a bottle of water (like the average size) in like 25 seconds!

But to be honest, I hate drinking water because it makes me pee so much. I know it helps with so much but ugh. I hate peeing so much.
I totally relate regarding the bathroom use, but I've come to see it as a positive that I'm doing my body wonders by allowing it to flush itself. The looks I get while at work - LOL!

At first, my bladder was so intolerant! I would drink just 250mL and my bladder would be like: "NO. Empty me NAO!"

When are you fucking idiots going to realize that anecdotal evidence =/= factual information?

I gotta love how the OP thinks she's enlightening people with info she barely understands herself.
Maybe you need to hydrate some more, you seem cranky.

But, seriously, did you notice that I said in my OP that it's recommended that *I* drink 2,377mL? Instead of feeding your ego by trying to put me down, it would have been more useful to ask what that number was based on.

Then, I would have answered you: The app asks you set up a personal profile including your weight and level of activity, and THAT'S what it bases the recommended amount of water on.

See? MUCH MORE useful to other readers and commenters, isn't it?

So, according to the research I have done so far regarding water toxicity - it seems that it's rare, but most importantly it's about drinking TOO MUCH, TOO FAST.

So, for example, drinking 1 gallon IS NOT HARMFUL and it will not alter your electrolytes if you SPREAD THE AMOUNT OF WATER OUT throughout your day. If you gulp 1 gallon in one sitting - THAT is dangerous.

I thought this was really worth mentioning.

I don't forget to drink water if I'm in the office if I have a lot of clients to see for the day I physically can't drink as much because I am on the go all day. But I do try to drink 64 or plus ounces a day. That's a combo of tea without sugar, water and kombucha. I stop drinking at 5 pm so that when I leave work at 6 my bladder is empty. Otherwise my commute home will be hell. Then I'll finish drinking when I get home.

I drink a lot of water! No energy whatsoever...

Once I went to a hospital and they took my urine and doc came back asking what is it? There isn't a urine in this water!

So gallon of water to drink washed my salt to the dangerously low level.

Be careful with your water intake. Plus new studies showing its bull! I am just naturally love water so I don't do it for any reason but love! ?

This is in extreme cases. An old boss of mine drank a lot of water throughout the day (didn't guzzle tons fast) and ended up losing potassium and sodium to the point that her doctor was concerned. She had to go on a very limited liquids order until her electrolytes were balanced. This happened over months.

Bottom line; if your urine is clear, it's a red flag to back off a little. Your urine should be light straw to light yellow in color.

Also, reading you talk about mL is annoying. 1000mL is a liter. 2377mL is almost 2 and a half litres.

The app thing just kinda proves how stupid people are anymore that they don't pay attention. We've developed a totally ADD culture and people just can't be assed to remember such important things anymore. Yeah, it's easy to forget, but an app reminder? Meh.

I actually bought myself a tumbler that was 30oz and just did my best to keep it with me daily. My goal was to drink two full tumblers of water. Was doing wonders, tbh. Made it much easier to keep track of it measure wise, too.

It's all over the Internet, so it must be true. *rolls eyes*. I drink a lot of water, but I know from experience that at a certain threshold, the more you drink the more thirsty you get, the more dry your mouth gets, etc. So "listening to your body" isn't always the best thing.

Hmm

Age could have played a role. Also, I don't know your boss's medical history or even how much your boss was actually drinking.

That sounds like a unique case. If someone is eating healthy, I don't see why sodium and potassium loss should occur. ?

Actually, I decided to go on this journey because I felt dehydrated all of the time. My skin was dull, I was cathartic, I had headaches, and I had mood swings. Then it donned on me one day how little water I consumed.

I'm living it now, and it's doing me wonders. Again, "drink more water" does not equate to "drink too much water." No one here is going to guzzle 3 gallons or even 2 gallons a day.

You two are just jumping to conclusions about me, but that's not my problem. Readers here are intelligent and they seem to be responding well to my post. *shrug* I guess they somehow figured out I wasn't advising them to drown themselves. Go figure! Critical thinking skills, eh? 😆

Anyway, how much water do you consume a day?

Sounds like a plan! ? I need to get me some kombucha. Have you felt any specific benefits from drinking it consistently?

So, according to the research I have done so far regarding water toxicity - it seems that it's rare, but most importantly it's about drinking TOO MUCH, TOO FAST.

So, for example, drinking 1 gallon IS NOT HARMFUL and it will not alter your electrolytes if you SPREAD THE AMOUNT OF WATER OUT throughout your day. If you gulp 1 gallon in one sitting - THAT is dangerous.

I thought this was really worth mentioning.

I wouldn't waste your time. She thinks she knows everything because of some minimal information she read. I'm glad she wants to help "spread the word" with things like this, but she's doing it wrong.
It's all over the Internet, so it must be true. *rolls eyes*. I drink a lot of water, but I know from experience that at a certain threshold, the more you drink the more thirsty you get, the more dry your mouth gets, etc. So "listening to your body" isn't always the best thing.

Maybe someone else will get the message.

I *drink* about 2 liters of liquid (water, tea, coffee, juice, etc) a day.

Nice, that seems to be the average

I wonder if there is an app that helps one calculate the amount of water in fruits and veggies. I need to look into it. ?

I think the general agreed estimate is that you get 20% of your total water intake from foods/drinks other than water.
