wow, talk about a kick in the face.ex-Fiorentina player Bernardeschi wins a freekick against his old team on the edge of the box, OVERRULES the regular Juve FK taker Pjanic and insists he wants to take it.
Then sure enough buries a goal against his former team, against the run of play because Fiorentina have been on top in this match, and Bernardeschi celebrates wildly like the corporate champion he is.

Europa League nights - the basement competition of Europe no one wants to be in.But always throws up the odd very good match.
I did look up the odds for todays match ups and nothing jumped off enough in my quick research. Maybe when they get down to 16 as well the odds will be better

I took it as he's pretty much just getting at what we were both getting at when we said football and ice hockey is mostly unwatchable nowadays.
He's ranting about people who are afraid to lose and play low percentage football really.
But a lot of what he says also sounds like an old man struggling to move on from old glories.

Theres prolly some truth to that. During the long DXPIL offseason I would sometimes watch old football games on the footballia website. Some of those old classic games are great. I wish there was a hockey website like that.
But who knows maybe the world cup will be exciting. It wont be without the USA nor Italy which is crazy, but maybe the Socceroos will be a nice underdog to root for. Doubtful xD

Not to kill your enthusiasm but international football is a borefest lol People playing like strangers because they train together like 2 weeks of the year before a tournament.
The only real exception is Germany or Spain, or any country that manages to hustle together 6-8 guys who play in the same team throughout the season at club level (Bayern and Barcelona).

Football got messed up by money. Now it really is that 8/10 teams max in the world just live for the Champions League and that's it. You can see the players way more pumped up on CL game nights giving it their all.
Back in the day when guys couldn't be millionaires just by sitting on a bench, they were hungrier to get out there and show their stuff.
2014, I still watch Brazil 1-7 Germany. When the Brazilian kids are crying shellshocked in the audience while Toni Kroos celebrates..... heel shit 😏

I read a great World Cup story about Argentina's World Cup win in 78 where they needed to beat Peru by 4 goals or more and it's rumoured the right-wing military goverment of Argentina broked a deal with Peru's govt for political prisoners in exchange for Peru throwing the game.Argentina won 6-0, went onto the final for a revenge match against Holland and won the whole thing.
Probably seems to be a football trend with the rigging

The 80s onwards is all you need.
The 60s had a wonderstory of Bologna winning the title in a race against time with their President of 30 years (and one of the biggest benefactors in the history of the city of Bologna) on his deathbed. Bittersweet ending.
But other than that it was the Milan sides dominating.
70s Juve dominates.
the 80s is when Napoli pull of signing Maradona and everything changes. Then from the late 80s onwards through the 90s it's the age of the "Seven Sisters" (Juve, Milan, Inter, Roma, Parma, Fiorentina, Lazio) all with ridiculously strong team, star names, world class players. It was the place to be for world football.
