Please keep in mind I'm actually being serious when asking the following. What is so appealing about John Mayer?

I mean besides the fact he makes most girls panties wet. I just dont see it. His music from what I have heard is just a dumbed down MOR version of SRV. I'm sorry but cliched "gee, see how sensitive I am" lyrics set to recycled SRV riffs in not exactly original.

I know everybody has their own tastes in music. A lot of people just want something to hum along with after a bad day at work. Nothing wrong with that. But it disturbs me when people actually refer to him as an artist.

To me, an artist is someone with something unique to say or play. Or someone that takes a old tired genre of music and puts their own stamp on it.

I love SRV, dont get me wrong. But I think he unintentionally destroyed current blues music based on how many imitators like Mayer who were spawned.

I dont see Mayer putting his own stamp on anything. He just seems to be recycling endlessly. Now Jack White of The White Stripes to me is someone who has taken something like The Blues into a completely different direction.

When I see artists like Taylor Swift and Mayer being referred to as "voices of their generation" the future looks very scary.

To me a voice of a generation is people like -

^^ LOLOL Only time he opens that gash under his nose is to retract some idiotic statement he made. Who the hell CARES?

You're talking about the whole ni**er pass thingy, aren't you?

I dunno man. Long as he didn't say black people should be picking cotton or getting lynched, I'm not too bothered about him using that word.

Speaking of which it's amazing how some words can still be bad even when there is no emotion behind it.

Like you can say "fuck.", instead of "FUCK!" and it'll still sound naughty to the ears.

Same with n**ger, I guess, which explains him being flamed right left and centre lol

Poor guy.

Hit the nail on the head Feisty. If it's not hot air, he's trying to reel it back in. He never shuts his damned cake hole!

And Mr. &2 , I wasn't referring to the most recent of his exploits ( this is news? Seriously? ), just his character in general. As to the word, tis just a word at the end of the day, I've heard many a person hurl it at another in jest, shock, surprise, etc. Do I use it? No, I don't personally. Being a cracker it just doesn't have quite the same 'panache'. I don't know what the attraction is, I'd want to throttle him if he was in my atmosphere.

Bella, I just know what random bits of flotsam and jetsam hit my eyes surfing the net. I've never done an in-depth research on him because he seems to not have any. 😉

http://www.playboy.com/articles/john-mayer-playboy-interview/index.html?page=2<BR>
PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?

MAYER: I don't think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I??ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin?? David Duke cock. I'm going to start dating separately from my dick.

PLAYBOY: Let's put some names out there. Let's get specific.

MAYER: I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And Kerry Washington. She's superhot, and she's also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl. Just all of a sudden she??d be like, —Yeah, I sucked his dick. Whatever.?? And you??d be like, —What? We weren't talking about that.?? That's what —Heartbreak Warfare?? is all about, when a girl uses jealousy as a tactic.

PLAYBOY: Among the things we've read about you online is this: You??re gay. Have you ever kissed a man?

MAYER: The only man I??ve kissed is Perez Hilton. It was New Year??s Eve and I decided to go out and destroy myself. I was dating Jessica at the time, and I remember seeing Perez Hilton flitting about this club and acting as though he had just invented homosexuality. All of a sudden I thought, I can outgay this guy right now. I grabbed him and gave him the dirtiest, tongue-iest kiss I have ever put on anybody—almost as if I hated fags. I don't think my mouth was even touching when I was tongue kissing him, that's how disgusting this kiss was. I'm a little ashamed. I think it lasted about half a minute. I really think it went on too long.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/molly-secours/john-mayer-racism-and-the_b_458434.html<BR> Mayer, 32, told an interviewer: "Someone asked me the other day, 'What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?' And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass."

i read the article and no amount of justification is necessary.

he's a racist and so is kanye (yea i know, minorities can't be racist). they're being jackasses is a separate issue.

@seavixen, you justified everything but his homophobic comments. why? because they were WRONG! there's no justification. and if there's no justification for that, there's no justification for any of it. it would behoove you to read holly robinson's comments.

would you use f-bombs and a host of other curse words in a room full of 1st graders? is that being PC? if you know that something is going to be read by women, by ebony women, by gays and lesbians, it's not "PC" to be considerate of your audience.

if he were some backwoods redneck whose only exposure to minorities was a television then his wholesale stupidity would be one thing. but assuming he has a scintilla of intelligence, he knew better...and he didn't care. and if he didn't care AND he knew better, that's what makes the racist/homophobe labels appropriate.

@brian, i'm always being sarcastic but to clarify...

Lol, I love it 😉

I think everyone is racist to some degree, rather they prefer to admit it or not - doesn't really matter.
It's part of human nature. We're uncomfortable with anything different from ourselves. Most people are able to overcome it and are not prejudice. But I'm convinced it's part of all our subconsciousness. Even in animals.

Anyways, kudos to John Mayer. I think he's amazing. He offends many, yes, but he also wins a lot of hearts.
He does his thing & I love it
