How closely related to Russian is it? Do Romanian people understand Russians without taking lessons - and the other way around?

It's always the "Da" part that trips everyone lol. Every Russian person I met IRL started talking Russian to me convinced I'd get it. It's nowhere near simillar... only in terms of phonetics ...comes with the slavic influence.
It's a romance language but it doesn't sound like portuguese, french, spanish, italian. The vocabulary basis is 80% latin but the slavic accent is too damn strong. Only romance language to have kept the latin declension. Romanians will understand portuguese, french, spanish and italian to a high degree...but none of those will understand romanian (in speaking).
Moldavians can speak both, grow up with both.
So as far as how it sounds, I understand why it sounds like Russian. At its core...could not be more different (romance vs slavic).

Actually that's the whole point. I had enough of being extraordinary and fabulous, there's grace in knowing when to walk away. 😆
I would go to the Philippines if they didn't have such a shitty marketing team....look at this 3 pages commercial for the documentary. Anticlimatic.

I do think it sounds a bit softer than Russian(I could be wrong, ofc.) I worked with a Russian and a Romanian(and a Greek) in a school project once and I didn't get the chance to ask these questions, because there was a lot of friction in the group, unfortunately. So now I finally got some answers. Thank you!🙂

Umm...i actually don't know the name of the mountain, it's a mountain range between Slovenia and Austria. You can't miss if you ask directions for Logarska dolina, ie Logger Valley! 😛
