Do athletes deserve to make 6+ figures a year compared to other types of professions/professionals that make much less and/or do much more?

I love sports! But, when you really think about the world we live in, it's kind of shocking that a golf player or football player or wrestling champion can make 20x's more than a doctor, those in the military or mad scientists, for example.

Incredible!

I get that those leagues are nothing without societal and public cooperation & admiration, but sheesh!

my husband's cousin is a professional athlete and we know exactly how much he makes. But, he's not making/raking in the bucks like David Beckham or Ronaldo Cristano types.

and yes,it's in the six figures. ie, 350,000 in that range per year. it's VERY HARD work, they get up super early at the crack of dawn, work out alot and have a rigid diet. the companies pay for their meals, travel ect.

do they deserve it? i think so yes. it's a dream of theirs to become one, and if they work super hard at it, why not?

Do they deserve it? Maybe.. Maybe not.

You have to look at it from the point of view of the team owners. Players are investments. Pay 6-7 figures and get a return of 8-9 figures. Sounds like a smart business decision if you ask me.

To quote the late Stuart Scott "Don't hate the player, hate the Game".

"Don't hate the player, hate the game." Exactly. This post was about examining "THE GAME."

They're called "golfers" not "golf players" dear.

The reason a lot of those players go bankrupt is due to lack of education on the matter. Many of those athletes skip college and go on to pro. Even those that do go through college don't learn squat about managing money.

So along with being raised in low income situations, they get all crazy with money AND they don't know any better in regard to what they're doing with it.

It's been an issue across the board in basketball and football. You have a lot of low socio-economic groups making pro status with no education on anything really. It's something they've been trying to counter by providing resources for these guys. I mean look at Shaq. He was headed down the same road until someone smacked some sense into him. Dude went off to get degrees on that stuff and went the opposite route to protect himself.

The rest get caught up in the wealth, loads of easy chicks, and the limelight and either blow all their money or lose it on child support.

i notice that. alot of people get tempted to buy the most expensive stuff, i mean overboard.

well not just that, even those with plenty of inheritance, they get half a mil, then blow it all in a couple of years instead of investing. they like living the "rich" life. there's no planning for the future.

Some pro surfers are pulling in 500k a year and hell yeah they deserve it. They are working hard as fuck to stay at that level and they have done so since they where kids. Same can be said about allot of sports. Plus its not like every kid who wan'ts to grow up and play in the NHL is actually going to make it. the chances are so godam slim. As opposed to how many kids want to grow up to be a doctor, Just about all of them have a very real chance of making it.

I don't know about some of the real superstars of football though. But they are absolute exceptions. It's not like there are so many of them making that it outweighs how many doctors and mad scientists are also making that much. YES the people who make your Anti Depressants and Invent your Condominiums make a fuck load more than that.
Ronaldo makes about 17M a year. An F18 superhornet costs 60M. Ronaldo entertains millions, While the F18 entertains Two lucky ass mother fuckers and Kills a Metric fuckton of innocent citizens. YOU the tax payer are paying for those two dudes to hoon around in a badass jet all day shooting people. And you don't even get to enjoy any of it, Okay you get to watch TOP GUN which is awesome. While you do get to enjoy watching Ronaldo kick as at sports. Even with all the sweet f18s you still get fucked up by a shity passenger plane hijacked by some desert folk.
I Hope this makes sense, Here is an F-18 Super Hornet. Being rad.

still same analogy as below, they are all risking their lives, and w/fighter pilots, even much much more so. in an instant. And also, doesn't the military also have a short career life span? don't they retire in their middle age and not at the average 65 years old? (still they get lots of benefits)
