I find it difficult to find any reliable information about this, mostly because I think the news lies (especially about this), and then the tiktok community can definitely take things to far.

If any body knows...

Where are we? what is going on?

How do you feel about it?

China is basically pulling everyone's information from the app masked.

I work in Special Operations, TikTok has already been banned on government devices. Congress's way out here is for them to sell the app, but the Chinese investors obviously don't want to do that.

Several countries have already taken measures to ban the app. The mainstream narrative concern is that the app is used for misinformation and inciting violence when riots happen etc.

I don't really think that. For me I see it as a pretty open community to bring people together and share ideas. Because of access it can connects people and ideas in ways that really haven't been experienced on this level.

It is my opinion, all other large forms of media in this country manipulate and control the narrative, to manipulate and control the population.

What about the argument that every other major app packages and sell's American data?

The issue is that the Chinese are doing it. Meanwhile it's always an "accident" when it happens in America.

I agree that there's forever a breach at T-Mobile, AT&T etc and there is never anything done about it.

No, they just outright sell your data. The biggest example is Cambridge Analytica. I'm sure they have ways around having to say that out right, but it has and is happening.

Racism toward China? Let's not forget there was absolute bull plop stories about spy hot air balloons this year. Never forget the government in all Western countries crippled the economy of its people by shipping factories abroad; Cat boots are made in Vietnam as are lower priced Docs, most textiles are made in India or its subcontinents, just about everything plastic or technological is Chinese made. Ignore the TikTok bollox and let's focus on who the real villains are.

I do believe some of the top Geopolitical scientist when they say deglobalization is in motion, I can see how the world and alliances are restructuring.

I think global trade in general is at risk, because the US Navy is reducing its fleet, limiting its roll in protecting the trade routes, which has made global trade and globalization possible since WWII.

But I don't think this is because China is a threat so much as China may be collapsing soon. Their demographics wont sustain a modern economic system, many think Covid has accelerated this issue.

You're right, most big SM platforms in the U.S. are nothing more than propaganda machines. There's plenty of evidence showing the government creating a narrative, then forcing these companies to spread it.

But, China owns TIK Tok just by the very essence in which China does its Commerce as a Communist country. We've known for years China is spying and using the data it collects against us. It's like volunteering for espionage by China. It was supposed to be sold during the Trump administration, and everyone cried. Now Biden wants it sold. That's all anyone is asking - for a company (preferably American) to buy it and for it to cut ties with Communist China. It can still exist. Bill Gates was going to buy it at 1 time. Look into China's WeChat and how that mess runs, and China's involvement and oversight into all Chinese tech.

Chinese hackers steel billions of dollars from the U.S. every year. They stole 20Million in just Covid relief money alone. AND THEY CAUSED THE SHIT! The more users use Chinese SM, the more opportunities they have to screw everyone over.

TBH sure as fuck don't want Gates to buy it, and I honestly don't trust any other US Company at this point.

This is the largest free'est platform in the US right now, have you seen the twitter files? I understand there is a risk of giving the power of manipulation to and adversarial country. But I honestly don't think that is the concern, the biggest threat is to our goverment/corporations is giving America this kind of freedom to assemble and share when the tactic as been to divide and conquer. Its not so much attacking America but attacking the American Regime and that is the biggest threat imo.

You're right, the state run media in America has became so exposed during the Twitter files. So much that didn't make sense before suddenly came into perspective. So much meddling, corruption, and all out lies by the government has been brought to light. It makes perfect sense that Tik Tok would more condusive to free speech, and also be a target of the regime. IDK, I just wish it wasn't Chinese, man. Settings - Screen Time - Content and Privacy- Photos

Tiktok is one of the apps that has access to all photos on your phone. Why would an app that you make videos and watch videos need to access all photos on your phone without even notifying you that they have this access?

150 million Americans use tiktok and grant this app complete freedom to all of their content and information from their phones.

I think the app is just fine but they need to be transparent and open about what they’re able to access. The app needs to be safer, especially considering it’s now being used as a major access point for pedos to access and stalk children, which they’ve done to every app anyway. There’s way too many issues with the platform that are super sketch.

Its kind of a vague suggestion so I’m not sure what you really mean by that or what you envision by this idea.

My first instinct is to say that is not practical or feasible, because you can’t really apply the same solutions to people who have different needs and problems.

Our state is a small example of this, because the money is concentrated in the Bay Area or tech industries, this has given them power to buy policy, so they decided that its in the best interest to increase the cost of energy to reduce use which is better for our planet. Which isn’t really a big ask for people in the Bay area, they have a lot of money and the climate is very nice so rarely do you need to use the A/C.

People in Fresno they don’t have any money and its 110 degrees in summer and they can’t afford to use their AC, and a few of them just die. These policies don’t work for everyone.

This is also a big reason why they say the EU is falling apart.

It will never be banned to the public. There is no possible way the government could truly ban an app so widely used. They can however make it illegal for government officials, and those in any place of power to use the app. Which they 100% should. That is the only real threat of the app. The fact it can spy is known, so any type of government officials using it is a real problem. The general population using it means absolutely nothing.

They can however make it illegal for government officials, and those in any place of power to use the app. Which they 100% should. That is the only real threat of the app. The fact it can spy is known, so any type of government officials using it is a real problem. The general population using it means absolutely nothing.

Well I think they could take step to financially injur tiktok, and shut down any financial transactions. There is the fear that creators can't monetize their content anymore, which is the suspicion since Instagram demonized their platform with the thought they would nolong have competition šŸ¤”

I feel like this ā€œban tiktokā€ rhetoric is just another social tool to create attention and divide people much like the ā€œban abortionā€ rhetoric that has actually been passed, allowing crusty old men who probably still get their mistresses abortions - total control over women’s rights.

It seems this tiktok ban circles back once a year. They’re just upset it’s a Chinese owned company. That’s really the issue tbh.
