Most likely scenario is as with most toy manufacturers, Hasbro sent the specs to a factory in China, and the Chinese worker in charge of setting up the machines and is making "not enough money to deal with this shit" just put the sensor/button/switch wherever there was space in the toy. In house QC (also making not enough money to give a shit) just checked the sensor worked and shipped them out. Hasbro may or may not have inspected them on receipt and if they did, it was too late to do anything about it, so they just sent them on for sale. It's a far more plausible explanation with the fewest number of assumptions made.

That being said, whoever thought that making a toy that giggled or made noises when you touched it in any way was a good idea in this day and age probably needs to be fired.

Barely making my way through the thread so someone may have already pointed this out...

The company came out and said it was aware of the design and placement of the button. This wasn't a manufacturing mistake.

Hasbro spokeswoman Julie Duffy told CNN in a statement that “this feature was designed to react when the doll was seated, but we recognize the placement of the sensor may be perceived as inappropriate.”

Hmm. Well I retract my statement that I accept it could of been a mistake then. I cant stand people calling it a sensor though. Are sensors not infrared type of stuff? This is a button, that you push, between her legs. Even if you sit her down, how would this "activate" the button in the first place?🤔

Again...Hasbro said "make this thing make noise when you make it sit", and the factory did exactly that, not caring about where the sensor was placed.

I dont know, I dont like it one single bit. As others have pointed out, someone designs it and then approves it. And its a button, not a sensor, how hard would you need to make her "sit" to get the button to push... The whole design of the button itself does not lead me to believe it would active if the child just put the troll in a seated position, id think you would need to place her down hard no?

Hasbro doesn't design their toys past the stage of the appearance/cosmetics. This is a fairly standard practice with any sort of overseas manufacturing where the company itself doesn't own the factory, and most of them do not. They contact out with third party factories. If Hasbro approved the design where the doll made noises when it was set down, they have the overseas factory work out the logistics of how to make that happen. I know this because my cousin and I are involved in having products made overseas now.

As far as how sensitive the sensor or the button is, without having one to look at personally, we simply can't make that determination. A YouTube video can't accurately show the amount of force needed to activate the sensor. It could literally only take gently putting the toy down in a seated position. In which case actively poking that particular area would also set off the sensor.

It's obvious that someone, somewhere didn't think the design of the toy through, whether it was Hasbro itself and them not providing clear instructions or whether it was the actual manufacturer itself not realizing the context in which the sensor could be viewed.

How do you explain that this feature is not listed on the box then, this would be a first of such a design, why not list it as a feature?

I'm not sure what you mean by a first of such a design.

If it's listed on the packaging that the toy makes noises, maybe they felt that was enough. Remember the packaging is done overseas as well.

Sorry I meant first of such a design, as in having a button/sensor in that particular location on the toy.

The box only mentions the tummy button not that she would make "noises" if you place her in a seated position.

Back in the 80s and 90s there were plenty of dolls that would "activate" some sort of noise or movement feature when you placed them on the included toilet. It's not a "new" feature but it's certainly a questionable feature. I don't think they're produced anymore for good reason.

I don't have the box so I can't speak to why it wasn't on the box or whether it was or was not. Claims made in YouTube videos are usually specious at best.

I've seen two videos and i can't see why eirher of those mum's would lie, she is a mum...where they list the features on the box and that button is not listed. Either way its off the shelf and I hope they burn every last one.

The official description from Hasbro includes the sitting down feature...looks like it didn't make it onto the box. That's probably the root of all this. Had it simply been specified there wouldn't be enough ammo for the Qanon influencers to feed off.

Questionable that hasbro say its a listed feature yet it never made it to print on the box. He said she said. Sounds like an easy way to put out a fire.

I read that bloody article yesterday already when doing my own research on this troll.

The description adds that the doll can say "How about a hug?" and "Um, cupcake!" Finally, it notes that "when you sit her down, she makes other funny sounds, too!" Not all dolls in the spring collection include such a button.

It does NOT say she makes "funny" noises when she sits down on the box, according to people who have seen the box. But yes I suppose I need to see this box for myself. I certainly won't EVER buy a toy that lists having a button between its legs that makes "funny" noises, would you?

If someone designed and approved it, wouldn't that mean they designed and approved what was on the packaging? All the more reasoning to believe there was either miscommunication, or no follow through with the approved designs at the manufacturing level.

As I said, I would need to see the box myself. And what features it lists on the packaging. Its all well that it's their official description but then that full description should be on the box. A bit of a cluster f# $ % to have miscommunication around this type of feature and a button under a skirt, between her legs.

The official description from Hasbro includes the sitting down feature...looks like it didn't make it onto the box. That's probably the root of all this. Had it simply been specified there wouldn't be enough ammo for the Qanon influencers to feed off.

The official description from Hasbro includes the sitting down feature...looks like it didn't make it onto the box. That's probably the root of all this. Had it simply been specified there wouldn't be enough ammo for the Qanon influencers to feed off.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/08/07/fact-check-troll-doll-draws-fire-giggle-button-private-parts/3307417001/

Questionable that hasbro say its a listed feature yet it never made it to print on the box. He said she said. Sounds like an easy way to put out a fire.

Did you even see the official document released prior to sale?

Of course not, have you?

Yes. It was in the link he provided smh

Thanks for creating this thread and raising the awareness, the most important thing is that the dolls aren’t available now.

You are by no means an idiot but a caring responsible woman and mum who cares about the protection and safety of children👏👏

A button/feature/sensor shouldn't be placed between a dolls legs, from what i understand this Troll is one of the "popular" trolls, and i dont know anything about these trolls to begin with being a girls toy. But she is also the only doll who has this feature from what I understand. No one believes it when they find out whomever is a peado now do they, everyone is shocked, or turns a blind eye... As is the case with all these sickos, when it comes to light ,it may not be the case with this doll, but it is a possibility and trust me when I tell you, im not into conspiracy theories.

What’s with the reservations regarding child protection about? I don’t see that many people getting fired up about it? I find that worrying.

There's no reservations about protecting children. Nowhere in this thread (save for one maybe one user)is anyone saying children shouldn't be protected or that pedophilia isn't a serious issue.

I'm disputing the likelihood of the link between some shadowy and sinister global network of pedophiles and the poor design and implementation of a toy.

Your statement is absolute perfect example of an appeal to emotion logical fallacy, specifically the "Think Of The Children" variety that prevents any rational discourse

Can I ask you, seeing as you know the industry somewhat.

The process of making toys, is it a team who would brainstorm the designs and concepts of toys together, or is it one person who would do this?

The process of making toys, is it a team who would brainstom the designs and concepts of toys together, or is it one person who would do this?

Usually it's a team. And none of them know anything about the manufacturing process. Branded merchandise like this usually are just specs handed down by the IP owners, the toy company submits some rough concepts, and if those are approved the toy company then contacts the actual manufacturer. Sometimes it means the factory creates a whole new product, and sometimes it means the factory already has a similar product that can simply be tweaked with a specific fit and finish. The manufacturer we've been working with basically gave us a "menu" of designs that we could choose from and tweak by size, weight, etc. in lieu of an entirely new product. And most of the "menu" items were easily recognizable as products already on the market by established companies.

Since this is a Disney branded product, there's likely little room for a single person to "sneak" something in like this. If it had been a custom product or not branded, the likelihood of a rogue employee is more likely.

See a rogue employee would make a bit more sense to me in this sort of case..cause if its a team, its just difficult to understand how someone wouldn't put their hand up say, well hang on. I guess the way you have put it here it makes sense that it could just be an honest mistake. Either way I'm just glad its gone. Thank you for explaining

What if the toy looked like this? Buttons in the same area.

This is not QAnon approved.

Can I ask you, seeing as you know the industry somewhat.

Right. There are too many layers to go through with no one putting their hand up like you said.

And I agree there shouldn't be a button between the toys legs and I don't necessarily think anyone would green light that unless it already was an existing design and they ordered it not actually realizing how the "sitting" sensor worked. However if that design feature DID get past all those layers when they fully knew how it worked, Hasbro needs to rethink who they have on their design teams.

Completely agree with you here 100% .

They did remove it quickly which is good, and who knows, let's hope they hold an internal investigation into how it made it onto the shelf.
