It has to be right? If physical abuse and neglect can be a thing with pets. Why not verbal abuse? (because theoretically they don't exactly understand you?idk). Thoughts?

I was staying at a friends about two weeks ago and the way she was yelling at her cats deeply disturbed me ( like calling them an f*cking idiot).

I wondered if she's like that with past people she dated/ was married too.

She's twice divorced.

The lady who fostered my bunny rabbit comes over to visit him and bring us hay from her farm and she asked me one day, “Did you just say ‘thank you’ to your dog? I love that…”

I say please and thank you to my dog bc he’s my baby. I may get cross at him sometimes but I always come back and talk to him about it and remind him he’s loved and that he’s a good boy. I find people who can be cruel to animals frightening. Def not my kind of people. And yeah there’s a difference between laughingly calling your pet an idiot, and screaming at them and making them feel bad. Our pets understand a lot more than some people give them credit, or even care I guess.

There was a study where they told one group of kids that the mice were really intelligent and the other group that the mice were really dumb. The result they found was that the mice who were in the group where the kids were told the mice were smart performed better and finished the task faster. The kids who were told the mice were smart ended up cheering and praising the mice and the group who were told the opposite yelled and insulted the mice. So yes animals may not understand words but they understand tone and volume like some mentioned.

It’s not okay to yell at them and use bad words. Many animals have higher hearing frequency. Tone of your voice matters. They also understand simple commands and who knows if they understand words. We think not, but maybe yes?

I used to have this loud and obnoxious family friend who’d come over and my cat would literally hide. She seemed terrified of him.

Be kind and loving to your pets and all animals, please. Peace ☮️

OMG! I caught 2 mice in a mouse traps last week. Kill me now...dumbasses...

You are the generation who believes any BS you fed! That cows CRYING because they KNOW they will be slaughtered...

NO THEY DONT! Because meat of the stressed out animal is not good for consumers. So there is a science behind how animals treated before they slaughtered...

I also saw documentary on herd of bulls running from the lion and as soon as one of them caught - they stop!

So while lioness is tearing apart their 'brother' 'smart' relatives are munching on the grass JUST around fallen prey and one shot was priceless when dumb bull trying to reach the grass by pushing dead bull so he can get grass from UNDER the corpse.

And there is SO MUCH FUCKING GRASS EVERYWHERE!!!

And not one of them cried...

At that moment I understood that animals are just that - animals and stop this liberal BS please. Whiny generation!

I agree. So why not go work/ live in a CAFO? I bet you would love it. It fits your personality perfectly.

Lol we call my dog attention whore in a loving way. She’s scared of everything.. I’m sure someone hit her or tried before she ended up in the shelter. Every time I pick up a broom a mop or whatever to clean, she bolts out of the room. We adopted her when she was about 1. You know there are times you get frustrated and might raise your voice in general but not at her. I will ask “are you kidding me?” As she’s gotten into the trash etc. Believe me she already gets it when you’re not happy like people say with the tone & energy. They observe so much & are so sensitive. You don’t need to be yelling right at them.

Ya don’t hang around those kind of people.

Or people who think animals have the emotional depth to be vindictive. I know someone who thinks their dog poops inside out of spite for them being at work all day. I’ve noticed people like that tend to lack empathy (for both humans and animals).

Animals are super intelligent

Anyone that doesn’t realise this and thinks its okay to mistreat them is a moron...

I wouldn't say super intelligent. But they are better at picking up on subtle cues (body language, etc.) than people in general.

For example - a dog that's normally friendly that *just* won't go near or associate with a certain person. That's usually, but not always, an indicator that something is "off".

They are extremely observant. I think some words they will recognize when they’ve associated it with something. Walk with going outside for a walk.. hungry with getting food.. etc because you can say the word without the tone and they get excited. Otherwise yes tone & energy.

Apart from your friend... you know her better.. But IMO being mean to animals shows how aggressive someone is .. you should notice if she is also being mean to for example foreigners who dont understand the language or waiters.. etc.
