Doing personal training classes with a female I trained with back in 2010.

Started up sessions. First sesh I was struggling with sit ups, she ‘playfully’ slaps my leg and says ‘my God blah blah, when was the last time you did sit ups blah blah’.

Verdict on this playful slapping and butter? When you barely know the person. Violation of your personal space?

Even when I'm well-acquainted with the person I consider them to practice poor judgment when they slap me to get my attention. That, or they lack respect for me to some degree

If you continue to see her I would tell her not to do it again

See this is what I mean. Two extremely opposing opinions, one on top of another. I didn’t like it because it had nothing to do with the training itself. It was more like a ‘ugh wtf, you should be able to do sit ups without struggling’ and then a little giggle after. I don’t like people slapping for attention or to be playful.

What are your goals and reasons for getting a PT? Do you just expected her stand 10 feet back and yell directions? They will get close to you to correct your form and spot you. Unless you just wanted a conversation buddy while speed walking on the treadmill.

I get correcting form. I really do. But slapping my leg to tell me I’m not as good at sit ups (granted it was playful) left me feeling annoyed as it’s someone not understanding my boundary.

Would you mind it in this particular context?

Good natured hazing is part of training in groups. Get fired up instead of feeling hurt.

She threw the gauntlet now pick it up and slap her with the gauntlet left and right.

if the slap is unwelcome, just slap her back lol

Hopefully it doesn't turn into a full on brawl

If you don't hate them, they aren't doing their job right.

Look at the particular context and then tell me what you think as it didn’t seem to be for the sake of more efficient PT.

A lot of blah blahs

What was the bigger offense, the slapping or her comments

No but be honest. How would a leg slap feel for not being able to do sit ups properly by a trainer you’ve just started with and met a handful of times several years ago

It’s called motivation.

You must be a very serious person if someone isn’t even allowed to touch you in a joking manner.

How many pending lawsuits do you have against people?

Well a pat on the back is absolutely fine. But a slap on the leg when I barely know the woman is too familiar and I felt an invisible line being stepped over at that point.

Surely if you had a dude you were training with first time (after 7/8 years) and to take the piss he slapped your leg joking that you’re a little pathetic, you’d feel he’s being full on?

My old trainer tapped me on the face with a boxing pad when I missed the count. And that was our 2nd session or something.

You're insisting your question on me like you want a different answer. But obviously people have different boundaries as you can see here. If it makes you uncomfortable, communicate it like ACsq had said.

I’m not insisting for it to be a different answer. I genuinely want to detail the question with as much context as possible so I can get sincere responses of what people feel. I know it’s different for all and so I’m happy if someone genuinely has a different POV.

Also @ACsquarepluto how would you word it?

Are you the one that was upset about being complimented too much by that obnoxious lady or somethin like that?

Either way, I wouldn't be bothered but I'm also in the same line of work. And I might do something like that myself. If this kind of contact bothers you, you shouldn't have joined the class. Your personal trainer will have to touch you (appropriately) and a bit of teasing is likely. You could say hey I don't really like the teasing, but remember you signed up for something that might not always be the most enjoyable or comfortable thing but should help you get to your goal. And no I don't think it's a violation of your personal space lol.

I am wondering if you can get monetary compensation for pain and suffering and emotional abuse (giggling)...

So you might be able to retire and spend life in cozy rocking chair and will never have to sit up! Or stand up! Would be nice if you also wouldn’t FUCKING TYPE MORON!

No. I took it as unnecessary for the actual training. Felt it was a little disrespectful as it wasn’t really part of achieving any goals.

Next sesh just tell her you have some germaphobia thing and you need her to warn you before she touches you, like a doctor does.

"ok now I'm gonna give your leg an encouraging tap, dat ok?"

Do you feel it is an over reaction on my part personally? Or would you just expect it as part and parcel of the PT game.

Idk. Never had a personal trainer.

A slap on the leg wouldn't bother me I'd like to think. But who knows.

Wouldn't bother me. Just need to understand people have different personalities and humour. Can't be so sensitive to things from people before you get to know them well enough to understand them. If you pick away at every tiny thing someone does that you don't like, you'll end up very lonely with no friends. We all have flaws and quirks. No one is perfect or behaves exactly the way you want. Think of it this way, if it's not intentional hurt because the person is malicious or spiteful, then you gotta let it go and be more tolerant or you'll miss out on getting to know what could be really awesome people.

How will a female spot you?

Females is it possible to spot a male? Say he lifts 200 squats 400

lmao. OP is a dude? I didn't know...
