Boy, that's extreme 🙂

I'm into the tiny house movement. But that isn't as earthy as the off grid. I've priced tiny homes for less than $ 60,000 if someone made it for me. But, where to put it. A lot of states have strict zoning and don't welcome tiny homes. Tiny homes would definitely solve any future mortgage crisis. No one would have a mortgage. Hell, people drop $ 50,000 on a car.
It can be extreme. Some tiny homes are not that great for what you get tho...

I'm not sure what laws are like in the States, but I have to say they seem very unfriendly in general to anything feasibly sustainable or people getting off grid @_@

Definitely a possibility here in Oz - in fact it seems ridiculous not to, with the space and sunshine we have down here it seems like an inevitable life style choice 🙂

@wagtail I'm enjoying the video you just posted and I will finish watching it today I hope.

I appreciate this guy's honesty, and I agree with him about solar lights - hard to find truly good ones.

But I have 2 Waka Waka solar powered lights for indoor use that I like and use during power outages and in the evening sometimes. No complaints so far. I leave them on a window sill to charge daily. I've had them for about a year.

I have grey ones, I guess an older model than what is shown on the site now.

Here are some top tiny house style s for country living. The US is a real pill when it comes to tiny homes. At best, an RV park in some states. Which means paying monthly rent of $ 800 or more. In other states it's outright illegal. In the DC, Maryland, Virginia area it is a pain in the butt to figure out and basically not worth the hassle.

With many, if not all tiny homes, you can have wheels put on them for moving. I've read many have it designed, then shipped to a location where it sits permanently. I kind of like the idea of towing my home. Just in case ..... 🙂
Cheers!

Great link thank yeh, I know what you mean about having mobility...

"Generating all her own solar power and collecting water from the local creek via a remarkable water wheel contraption which pumps water to the house and garden, Jill has devised unique systems of self sufficiency. Nothing goes to waste, everything is either composted or recycled somehow."

Wow.

I'm curious, Wags... what is your primary

motivation for living off the grid (other than

internets of course!)-- is it the freedom of self

sufficiency?

Or enviro-stuffs?

Or... ?

And where's your Mars?

*curious*

o.O
👋 thanks for dropping by!

My main motivation is basically a strong desire to disconnect from the monetary system we have currently.

To do that (I believe there are several ways) but for meh to do that- off grid living seemed the most feasible and the most likely path I would enjoy...

It's a selfish cause,

not particularly linked to enviro-stuffs but of course, you meet people with those ideas, and can't help learning more about that aspect of it too.

And yes the strongest secondary- is a need for self sufficiency/ in that I see it as a personal challenge. And I prefer that to say- meeting performance targets in a Sales Role or achieving a certain promotion by such and such age.

This is my version of that sort of goal.

I happy to hear that ♡ ... very Sag imo.

I loathe the corporate ladder, as well.

The function I serve within it is fairly static and

and is based on longevity & consistency-- my

Taurus Mars can do business with that.

However, I love the principle you're standing on--

its not entirely selfish because the economy is

the way it is to control people.

And when others see you succeed (under non

enviro-reasons) they will follow.

"Prefabrication can dramatically lower the cost of a home, which is why the tiny DublDom homes are so attractive. Designed by BIO Architects, the DublDom modular house series are available in a variety of sizes, starting with the smallest 26-square-meter option priced at a little over $ 14,000. Each cozy home is clad in timber and double-glazed windows, and can be easily assembled in just one day."

That would be fun to do for a year!
Absolutely 😎

Kind of aiming for a lifetime m'self 😆
Wow! I think that's a brave thing to do!

I see it more as a holiday destination for me. Like owning a cabin in the woods kinda thing. Fuck the knitting and sewing bit though. Too boring! Everything else though!

Would it be family thing for you or more communial with other families?
hehe nah it's not that brave...

if I fail I'll just start again elsewhere.

No stressh/ but yeh, it's a personal project- I have no family to consider 😄

MAYBE if I enjoy the set up and learn enough I'll consider letting others buy in and start my own casual commune.

At the very least, a community will need to be nearby so I can trade and barter... 🤓

@CopperDove quick update

I’m a lil closer to my ideal goal now.

In a tiny house in the mountains - 18solar panels and a 15,000 litre rain water tank so far is keeping me going.

So partially there. Not really off grid tho and still a busy city linked community but yes, very healing and good practise for further minimisation hah hope you’ve been well x

Wow, excellent! Thank you so much for this update! I'd really like to move more into solar power too. I've started with something for power outages -- a flexible solar panel that works well in the region I'm in. My region doesn't get consistent bright sun through much of the year, so it's a bit more tricky. The panel rolls up so nicely and compactly, and for some reason my cats like to sniff it a lot (more than they sniff most other things). lol

What are you able to run with the panels you have?
