My sister named all of my pets. The pug is named scout after a Too Kill a Mocking Bird character. Not exactly sure why. The cat is Skittles. No reason except that its a cute pet name.
I have a gerbil that we got for my sister's 8th birthday and she named it Sparkle
Why Sparkle?

Why Sparkle?
Because she was an eight year old girl, i dont know
My cat is named kek. Well to spell it right, chec. Named it after the pattern on her fur..ressembles a chec in romanian (I don't know the word for this in english):
She's grey and white and a light brown on her tummy. She's also a pirate since she lacks one eye.
Hey! I have 3 pugs - 2 boys and a girl and they are named Pugsley; Gomez and Wednesday - from the Adams Family.
well....I went to get her in a snowstorm, and she was like this little drop of fluff, so I named her snowflake. Her internet trolling alias is strudel, this was before ands had that account 😄
Named him after Dr. Evils cat.
My Shih-Tzu is named Hazel, because I love coffee and at the time hazelnut was one of my favs. She's a swirly dark brown color. Then I got the Havanese and she's very cute and all white, so I named her Bella.
Needless to say, but Hazel is a cool ass dog and Bella is a little asshole.
I had a black cat. I named him Bob because I never heard of a cat named Bob.
Sly 🐶 - brother named him.
Abby 🐶 - after a character in E.R that my mom loved.
Smokey (cat) - gray, smokey-looking cat. (Mine)
Boots (cat) - she is black, but has white on her feet that looked like boots.
Psycho (cat) - he's crazy.
Weird dog icon. ^^ I wonder why (cat) wasn't made into one?
(kitten) (kitty) (feline)
Very unoriginal: Macie came with her name.
However, her name was in our top three choices, so we thought it was serendipitous!
She was meant to be ours: We wanted a white female American Pit Bull Terrier rescue (lots of pits have Staffordshire terrier in them and they weigh more). There was up an adoption event one day next to a store where we were shopping, and there she was, a gorgeous small white pittie named Macie.
I have 3 pups.
My Sugar Bear , she is an Akita and she is sweet as sugar and looked like a baby bear cub when I got her. I still tell her that every day.
Bella, she is a chihuahua. When I got her it was because the people around the corner from us were breeding them. We got her son the month before because they kicked him our and a coyote almost got him. People in the neighbor were complaining about their dogs, she was the breeder momma and when they didn't need her for the puppies anymore they dropped her over our fence. She was a mess when we got her! Totally afraid of humans, weighed 2 1/2 pounds, flees, mange, wounds all over her. It took me 2 months to even get her to warm up to me. I told my mom I have to name her something beautiful because she is going to be a beautiful girl. Since Bella means beautiful girl that's the name she got. Now she is a beautiful little girl, happy, loving, playful and very talkative. And my mom took her son Bruno so they are always together. 🙂
Last but not least, Norman. He is a chihuahua/terrier mix, my newest addition and also a little rescue...I always take in the misfits. He has the biggest ears and reminds you of the little cow that was in city slickers. So my boyfriend said his name has to be Norman...I added to it and his full name is Norman Preston Mayfield the 3rd. I felt like he needed a good name to know he was part of the family. Preston is a family name and since he is the 3rd dog, plus just putting the 3rd after it made him sound so important and distinguished. hehe
Named my Cat Mr.Bigglesworth.
He's a tux cat and mitten/boots/socks was too original. Decided to name him after the cat from Austin Powers.

I had a black cat. I named him Bob because I never heard of a cat named Bob.
I feel like I'd say something like this.

In my case it was quite straightforward: following the death of my father back in April I have adopted the old family cat whose name is Mixie. My mother originally named her this back in the day as she is a mixture of black and tabby (about 65/35). She was originally from an animal sanctuary and I don't think that black (or mostly-black) cats are very popular so that may be part of the reason that she was originally unwanted.
