in terms of policy ( far more progressive)

and overall happiness of it's constituents

they legalized

Gay Marriage and Cannabis first...........

and they have better health care for example

why can't we get our sh*t together here in the U.S?

do you think population size has something to do with it?

Canada's population is just over 36 million.

the population of the state of CA alone is just under 40 million

That's opinion.

It's pretty basic for a human to love where they come from more then other places. Every country feels they are better then the others. I understand.

Cheaper medical bills, but worse doctors. Also the waiting list to even get medical attention is ridiculous. In the end you get what you pay for.

Also a simple book that cost 10 $ here is 20 there. The taxes are much higher. So in the end it has its flaws to blind people from the impression it actually gives, just like everywhere else in the world.

Or bankrupt Greece where ppl were lining up in soup lines two years ago when the crisis hit apex?

Apply some critical thinking and try not to disseminate any and all propaganda that is served to you.

Or are you the one with ivy league edumacashion whom ive asked once already if they dont teach that for premium tuition?

Only reason why Singapore is No.6 in healthcare is cos they want us to work till we're 80 and one foot in the grave. Then when we're gone a few years after retirement they'll just keep what's left of our pension (provided we have no next of kin, which is highly probable considering how many people here shun marriage and children for career).

#1. GDP doesn't really having any direct bearing on access to care.

that is strictly up to policy

Take Italy for example.

There are no jobs really in Italy. It's a huge problem.

Poverty is everywhere

but guess what ?

if you are poor and you are sick you won't likely die because you'll actually be able to see a doctor

unlike here in the U.S where people literally die everyday because of insurance denials by

physicians

we are also behind in a lot of groundbreaking fields in medicine because we have cut funding for research in these fields.

also going to medical school and college is extremely expensive especially compared to a lot of these countries so it is less accessible for large parts of the population which is also one of the reasons why we have a shortage.

Lastly you should know I have friends from the U.S who have gone to a couple of these countries that

I guess given your obvious bias you wouldn't believe are actually ranked higher than the U.S in terms of health care.

One couple I know in particular was visiting Oman ( ranked number 8) last year with with their child .....

long story short their child got sick and it was way easier for them to get the emergency care they needed than what it would have been like if it actually happened here in the U.S..

I also have Italian friends who come from working class families and are among the first to go to college in their family and they have confirmed that the healthcare system here is worse.

lol you keep talking off your high horse but youre just clueless.

Its like you even believe yourself lol.

Woman i live in a country next to Italy, i know how it is there, i also know med school graduates who go to north African countries to give a helping hand so i also know second hand how it is there. They dont even have basic med supplies.

And here you are.....fresh with knowledge from Berkeley ivory tower where all common sense has long since evaporated.

btw in the real world, Italian labor statistics are back up at pre recession levels, while Italy is a fucked up country with rampant nepotism and clientelism to say there are no jobs is a stretch.

Like that time where you said to me Roman influence is gone from todays western world but really the whole legal system is based on Roman law. 😂😂😊

I think you think you are using your critical thinking skills when in fact you are just invoking your own cultural biases that have been ingrained in you through social conditioning and false media representation

This list isn't really subjective.

One of the most critical things that determines the ranking by the WHO is access to care for everyone

which means getting seen by someone and treated.

Another critical thing that determines the ranking is positive health outcomes ( which means being treated successfully)

Only reason why Singapore is No.6 in healthcare is cos they want us to work till we're 80 and one foot in the grave. Then when we're gone a few years after retirement they'll just keep what's left of our pension (provided we have no next of kin, which is highly probable considering how many people here shun marriage and children for career).

lol

I want to go to Singapore for my Birthday this year.

I haven't been in a decade.

it has changed a lot. The only thing that hasn't changed is it's still sterile like the inside of a hospital.

So in the end it has its flaws to blind people from the impression it actually gives, just like everywhere else in the world.
but Canada literally is ranked the 6th happiest country

It really doesn't though. That statistic has no real proof. It's just a biased opinion some random person made. Let me debunk your theory though with actual fact rather then just opinion.

American doctors live within the highest class of our society. They make the most money within the top professions, and live in the highest class homes. Homes that require large sums of money to manage. So when they go to work they go willing to do more then best of their ability. Because their own life style depends on it. Which is why America has some of the best doctors in the entire world. It's because they are happy and satisfied with their job, and their finances. You get treatment quick, because like i said you get what you pay for.

Now looking at other countries where doctors make much less do to free health-care, or less schooling the doctors are less satisfied, and their work ethic shows it. You can bring up any random statistic from the internet, but that doesn't change the fact that even the most unhealthy of Americans love longer due to the advanced health-care, assuming they have the funds to afford it.

I'm not saying it's morally right or wrong, I'm just saying a surgeon in America is living in a gated community in a 600k+ home.

Like the OP mentioned the population in America is huge, so the fact is not everyone is going to make it out. If the government decides you aren't worthy of living you are pretty much dead to the system.

It's much less the fault of the governmen imo and more the fault of the general population. If you can't afford babies then don't make them. Genocide is obviously illegal and super messed up, and no normal minded person on earth wants to see ww3. So the population needs to take matters into their own hands and stop reproducing if they can't afford it.

Do you seriously believe Canada has a worse healthcare system than lets say Morocco?

Or bankrupt Greece where ppl were lining up in soup lines two years ago when the crisis hit apex?

Apply some critical thinking and try not to disseminate any and all propaganda that is served to you.

Or are you the one with ivy league edumacashion whom ive asked once already if they dont teach that for premium tuition?

you don't live in Italy?

living next to the country doesn't qualify you last time I checked.

In large parts of the US we DO NOT have basic supplies in rural areas.

Even in dense urban centers there is a lack of primary care doctors so people can't see anyone.

Now take the population of the U.S and compare it to one of those smaller North African countries like Morocco.

Morocco's population size is about the same as the state of CA.

Even if there was a higher percentage of people not receiving care which is not the case

there would be less people over all who receive do not receive care compared to the amount of people who do not receive care in the entire U.S.

A lot of people in CA btw have issues receiving care. I know because I'm one of them. As a matter of fact every member of my family is one of them Everybody who goes to my church is also one of them. Everybody from my grandmother's neighborhood is also one of them. All of the people I've worked with at community clinics are also one of them. People who are now only being served by "prime" programs are also one of them.

you get the picture......

you should also know that I'm pre-med because of the issue with access to care here in the states.

I have five years of recent experience working and conducting research at UCLA Medical school .

I've have three years of experience volunteering in community clinics.

Lastly health disparities is literally my field.

All of the stuff I'm sharing with you isn't my opinion .

These are widely accepted facts.

American doctors live within the highest class of our society. They make the most money within the top professions, and live in the highest class homes. I'm just saying I agree with 1 point of the OP. The population in America is too high which is a problem. There are too many people with too many problems. I agree with that 100% .

I've actually had a realization recently. Sometimes it's better off to be dead then keep living. Not saying I want to kill myself, but so many people live life just using resources while never giving back. That's why I've been donating to every charity I possibly can. So when the point comes where I die I can feel happy about it. Like my life wasn't completely meaninless. Too many people work their every day lives apart of the system just taking and taking but never giving back. What a worthless and selfish life that is..

I just hope eventually humanity gets to the point where everyone helps eachother. Like the world powers can stop with the whole "Best in the world thing" and focus on the world as a whole. Like fixing world hunger, and all the suffering humans and nature alike face. I don't want to picture a world where this earth become extinct due to petty territories and differences. I much rather picture a future where we settle all our differences and make a world that is stable and comfortable for all faces of life.

LOL you didn't debunk anything.

Let alone the World Health Organization's ranking system.

and that who paragraph you wrote is a mix of conjecture and inferences based on opinion.

How many doctors do you know personally?

I have a close family friend who I consider to be an uncle who is a Doctor.

I've also worked with doctors.

I have friend who are now doctors.

You don't actually make that much money ( there are nurses for example that can make just as much with half of the schooling) unless you specialize.

and even those who specialize don't make any real money until at least 6-8+ years after completing medical school.

All residents regardless of specialty make about 60k+ a year for at least 2-3 years after completing medical school.

It could go up to almost 80k after 5 or 6 years for a chief resident in some super competitive specialty.

But that isn't really that much at all. I have friends that only have Bachelors degrees who make 80k or more.

Also most people go into at least 100-200k in debt to complete medical school.

And? That random statistic should make me feel what? Ashamed? Is that your motive?

the random statistic debunks your cheaper care worse doctor theory lol.

i'm thinking about Univ. of Toronto for medical school lol

You can bring up any random statistic from the internet, but that doesn't change the fact that even the most unhealthy of Americans love longer due to the advanced health-care, assuming they have the funds to afford it.

but even going back and actually using your theory

Canadian doctors only make slightly less than US doctors especially when you calculate the cost of living in.

Medical school also cost a lot less.

So even with your theory it makes sense that Canada is ranked higher than the U.S

Yeah I’m not sure why he’s putting doctors on a pedestal?? The ones who make a killing are the cosmetic surgeons and majority of that is voluntary procedures.

Look I don't even want to argue anymore. I much rather discuss ways we can make the world better as a whole. I rather put these petty differences aside and focus on the future for everyone. None of this even matters. What matters is figuring out ways to work together. I don't disagree with you whatsoever. Canada is a great place. I can't deny that.

A professor making 300k can be bankrupted if they get cancer in America

That's not kosher

The costs are disgustingly prohibitive

Lol @ 600k for a house being perceived by you as an expensive home. There are 1bd condos going for more than that here.

Obviously. Just like you don’t need a medical degree to make a living and get into the gated community. Or whatever his argument was for healthcare being expensive.

Being a doctor is a losing endeavor these days but 80k

Lol who are you kidding

Doctors make 150k at minimum

When you are a full fledged doctor you can make at least 150 k

but that doesn't happen directly after passing multiple boards and graduating from medical school.

To actually practice medicine you have to be matched to and complete what is called a residency program at a hospital which can be anywhere from 3-5 years long.

Sometimes you have to do a fellowship after that and then even additional training ( e.g- some specialties that involve surgery which are the most lucrative ).

On the other hand you can get your Bachelors in Nursing and then do two additional years of grad school and become a Nurse practitioner and with only a little over time make around 140k at 24 or 25.

The primary care doctor will be closer to 30 before they see that kind of money and most likely will also be in more debt.

Nurse Anesthetist make more than most primary care doctors also

though malpractice insurance rates are higher for them.

I think you think you are using your critical thinking skills when in fact you are just invoking your own cultural biases that have been ingrained in you through social conditioning and false media representation

This list isn't really subjective.

One of the most critical things that determines the ranking by the WHO is access to care for everyone

which means getting seen by someone and treated.

Another critical thing that determines the ranking is positive health outcomes ( which means being treated successfully)
LMAO @ i think 😂😂😂 Have you ever been to Morocco? I have.

yeah that was sarcasm.

Have you ever been to rural parts of America?

Or even destitute urban areas like Detroit or Flint Michigan?

Are we talking about Canada or America atm?

Anyhow, an example. I live in Slovenia, ranked just below US and ofc Morocco in that list.

I have a pisces buddy, gym freak who got back problems. He went to the doctor, they put him on priority list after first examinations. He went to surgery 3 months after diagnosis, has an equivalent of your college tuition worth(200k€) of medical work and steel supporting his backbone now.

I should add he is officialy unemployed, on welfare for 10 years. It cost him nothing and he got 5 years of 2 weeks spa as rehab free of charge.

I dont think thats possible in the US let alone Morocco. So much for the list.

And yes , living next to somewhere gives you access to better info as opposed to living across the Atlantic ie Italy.

When i write "LMAO @ I think" im actually mocking your inability to do so but eh....lets just put this together with the rest of the stuff for which your head is too high in the clouds to get an accurate understanding of.

I support the mentally disenfranchised tho, so np. 😂😂😂

So in the end it has its flaws to blind people from the impression it actually gives, just like everywhere else in the world.
but Canada literally is ranked the 6th happiest country

and while small commodities are slightly more expensive

people get paid more and things like Tuition and Housing cost less.

And? That random statistic should make me feel what? Ashamed? Is that your motive?

the random statistic debunks your cheaper care worse doctor theory lol.

i'm thinking about Univ. of Toronto for medical school lol

Yeah I’m not sure why he’s putting doctors on a pedestal?? The ones who make a killing are the cosmetic surgeons and majority of that is voluntary procedures.

Exactly.

Maybe he's watched too many episodes of Nip/Tuck.

Dermatology is also another lucrative specialty ( doctors make around 400k a year after extensive training) and again because most of their procedures are cosmetic and thus deemed elective procedures and are not covered by insurance.

Dermatologist also pretty much work 9-5 unlike most heavy surgery based specialities e.g- cardiothoracic surgeons or orthopedic surgeons who make only up to 100-200k more.

A professor making 300k can be bankrupted if they get cancer in America

That's not kosher

The costs are disgustingly prohibitive

Lol @ 600k for a house being perceived by you as an expensive home. There are 1bd condos going for more than that here.

Maybe it is. Feel free to brag all you want. Now that I've been thinking i see the bigger picture and that means nothing to me.

It’s not a brag. It’s reality.

Maybe in your town the highest paid profeission is a doctor. But that’s not the case in my town. So speaking of the bigger picture...open your eyes and see it.
Help me see it then. What is the highest paid profession in your neck of the woods?

It’s hollyweird so you have actors, directors, studio heads, etc etc.

But outside of the entertainment world...

Attorneys

Lawyers

Engineers (nuclear, aerospace, etc. etc.)

Restraunteers

Architect

Marketing managers, Financial managers

Developers (I work with these guys who develop 6-10 properties a year and net 600k and upwards profit per development)

Advertising

General Contractors

I could go on and on....probably a lot I’m leaving out. And many of these industries don’t require a decade of school and 250k in student fees.

I slept with a risky chick once and had some weird symptoms some time after. To make a long story short I though I had an std, called the doctor, and they got me in for blood tests that day. Luckily they came back negative.

That's how American doctors work. They will literally see you the day you think you have a problem.

LOL you didn't debunk anything.

Let alone the World Health Organization's ranking system.

and that who paragraph you wrote is a mix of conjecture and inferences based on opinion.

Agreed but no nurse practitioner is making that kind of money at 25

Believe me

There's ppl who put in years that don't get those jobs

It's not that simple

I know two as a matter of fact.

The difference though is they went to a highly Competitive nursing program which places students in Hospitals that will definitely hire them. 95% of people in the particular nursing program have offers their junior year of undergrad. Grad students often have a job well before their conclusion of their final year.

I also know of a many programs in the same state that matriculate a large amount of students who aren't able to find work with a BSN.

It depends were you go.

Out of three women I know who are nurses two of them already own a house in LA and they are not even 30 yet.

The only one who doesn't just has a Bachelors in nursing and is only 22 years old.lol

One has a Masters. The other has her PhD.

I slept with a risky chick once and had some weird symptoms some time after. To make a long story short I though I had an std, called the doctor, and they got me in for blood tests that day. Luckily they came back negative.

That's how American doctors work. They will literally see you the day you think you have a problem.

Youre comparing 10 hour high risk surgery with blood tests? I dont get it? Im sure i can get my blood tested immediately too.

So in the end it has its flaws to blind people from the impression it actually gives, just like everywhere else in the world.
but Canada literally is ranked the 6th happiest country

and while small commodities are slightly more expensive

people get paid more and things like Tuition and Housing cost less.

and Canada was ranked as having better health care than the US

And? That random statistic should make me feel what? Ashamed? Is that your motive?

the random statistic debunks your cheaper care worse doctor theory lol.

i'm thinking about Univ. of Toronto for medical school lol

A professor making 300k can be bankrupted if they get cancer in America

That's not kosher

The costs are disgustingly prohibitive

Lol @ 600k for a house being perceived by you as an expensive home. There are 1bd condos going for more than that here.

Maybe it is. Feel free to brag all you want. Now that I've been thinking i see the bigger picture and that means nothing to me.

It’s not a brag. It’s reality.

Maybe in your town the highest paid profession is a doctor. But that’s not the case in my town. So speaking of the bigger picture...open your eyes and see it.
Doctors is still the best profession out there

Look up fortune or businessweek

Computer science second

I don't know why you're belittling the profession

I find it very odd.

I’m not belittling the profession. It’s a very noble job. One that I’m far too squeamish for.

I’m belittling souls reasoning that healthcare is expensive and out of reach for the average joe because doctors buy all the expensive gated housing in town and need to afford the mortgage. Seems ridiculous.

I think you think you are using your critical thinking skills when in fact you are just invoking your own cultural biases that have been ingrained in you through social conditioning and false media representation

This list isn't really subjective.

One of the most critical things that determines the ranking by the WHO is access to care for everyone

which means getting seen by someone and treated.

Another critical thing that determines the ranking is positive health outcomes ( which means being treated successfully)
LMAO @ i think 😂😂😂 Have you ever been to Morocco? I have.

yeah that was sarcasm.

anywho

I want to go.Riads are sick!

Have you ever been to rural parts of America?

e.g- Native American reservations?

Or even destitute urban areas like Detroit or Flint Michigan?
