At my wits end wit sag

So my ex boyfriend says:

I would not be okay not talking to him.

I REALLY WOULD BE JUST FINE

However I asked if that's a good or bad thing to see what he says

He said both.

(He is a truck driver) (so we don't see each other all the time)

Yes hes my ex I do love him yes he knows this. Broke up last September. We always seek each other out its not just me. He hasn't been in a relationship since and neither have I. Hes been getting his cdls and I been in school and work a lot (we are both 31). As he says we gotta crawl before we walk now.

Should I just stop calling him for a while to show him, yes I can love you but no i damn sure don't have to talk to you to be ok.

What exactly is the right way to handle this with a sag man?

I know he cares but Im about damn tired of just being loyal and here for him and him continue with these crazy ass test type things I feel like hes putting me through. Should I just tell him that instead. I need guidance please
