Posted by Blackburnomg I LOVE her virtues in men, so beautiful. I love her depiction of Mr. Bingly for the main character's sisters. And I love her LOVE of her sisters too, that she wants to protect and hope for them to have good marriages too. Even though some of her sisters are single women, like the one who played piano, Jane always knew which ones were matched with who. She only bumbled a bit when she tried to write the "Emma " one, which she knew was a catastrophe, pairing up the farmers girl with men who want to marry wealthy and educated women. lol
Pride and Prejudice, Sense and sensibility, Persuasion and Lady Susan.
I've just seen P & P film and a film based on her life.
I just love how she sees a marriage as a true partnership based on sharing, caring and truthful loving. Quite modern for her times. She also promoted naturalness in women, and virtue in men.
Too naive, but I've always loved her novels since I watched P & P when I was a kid and decided to read her, I wish things were as simple as she portrays them... a misunderstanding that nearly separates the couple - and which makes her think he's doesn't deserve her love- is resolved at the last moments, and it all finishes with their union. She didn't get to see how married life developes.
I just love how her novels reflect devotion.
I've read she was a wonderful aunt : )

Posted by lady_chatterleymy ex's weren't readers either. My husband isn't much of a reader unless we are on vacation, and we sit out by the beachfront and read under the shade. But he'd never read Jane Austen, we have different types of reading. His is Star Trek types.
My son is almost 14 months and he loves reading. Sometimes he carries books around instead of his toys. I hope he loves to read!
My husband doesn't like reading at all = gives me a sadface. đą

my son too btw is a reader. LOVES to read. gets it from me.
your husband doesn't read at all?? nothing? not even magazines?
My husband doesn't read unless he's forced too. One summer we joined a book club and even then it was like pulling teeth to get him to read. He reads a lot for work. It's mainly legal and contract language. I wonder if that has anything to do with him not wanting to read at the end of the day. Also, he speaks 4 languages fluently and has a general interest in languages. He would probably read to learn a new language. That's the only reading material that I can think of that he'd enjoy. Or something that has jokes in it. He loves to laugh.
Even though he doesn't read, every year I get him 1 book. Maybe eventually he'll like reading, like in his retirement years. đ

Yes, I love how she shows that family feeling.
You prefer Bingly? Ah, I'm too typical but I like Darcy, I've never liked that type irl but Idk, I think I might even come across like that at first. He's a serious asshole with huge ego and high standards, but with a big heart.
What do you think about the placements of Elizabeth and Darcy?

but she had a tragic love story, she never married or never got with her beloved who left her.
yet she wrote the most beautiful stories of love and romance. She knows the best kind of men to me.
according to her biography her beloved went for money, wealth and not love.
