it was like the first time I ever saw Cristina scoring a goal in a WC let alone 3, he usually sucks at tournaments

Now the french are playing. I don't get that hype about them, their squad is very young and less experienced. It wouldn't surprize me if they fail

They have better mentality than England tho.

And the name is Cristiano 😬

Well nobody expects anything from England, while people assume France to have the best team. I mean once they face a team who is physically at their level or above, they are probably done. Maybe the Aussies will teach them a lesson ^^

I know, but he just looks like Cristina lol

Messi missed a penalty against Iceland....Ronaldo missed a penalty against Iceland at the European Cup 2 years ago (1:1) and went on winning...

I don't even want to think about it.... 😢

Man I haven't seen a good match of Croatia for like 20 years. They used to have so many great talents in the 90s, just like Serbia but both teams don't even come close to the level of players like Savicevic, Boban or Stojkovic. Modric wouldn't even be sitting in the bench of any Cro/Serb squad from the 90s at all.

Messi will always be second to Ronaldo 😂 that's an achievement.

Croatia is hard to crack tho since last Euro.

Who do we think will win the tournament? Hard to look past Germany.

Still early but yes Germany is always a contender in major tournament.

Some of the other ‘big’ teams that have played so far haven’t been great but we will have a better idea tomorrow and Monday when Germany, Brazil and Belgium play.

Edit - Spain and Portugal played well though, best game I’ve seen so far.

Messi and Cristina copy each other. When one of them scores 60 goals, then the other does the same the next year. When Messi wins the Ball d' or then Ronaldina does the same. And when Shenaldo wins a big cup then Messi usually...don't make me say it 😢

Croatia might be hard to crack but they don't play like they used to, that's what bothers me.

No, because we’ve failed to perform in major tournaments for the past 20 years. We usually progress through the groups though.

Yea but I never quite understand with England underachievement at every tournament.

Naa thats a lazy attitude. They could learn from Ronaldo, he drags a dead team with relegation battlers like Fonte and Cedric to high places. One of the greatest to ever do it imo 💪

Ronaldo is an Aquarius like Aguero, Suarez and Neymar etc 😎

This team is probably better than the one that won bronze at that 90's WC. Coach can afford to leave Real Madrid player (Kovacic) on the bench for an hour.

Croats are full of themselves tho (sry Nemmy 😆 ), the press and public expect medals all the time and mostly they sucumb to the pressure. We'll see. Rooting for them tbh. Fak Germany, Balkan boys 4 ever!!! Ow i just remembered, you're German hahahahaha

1. nah, any croation player from the 90s >>> any current player. Modric doesn't even have half the talent of Prosinecki, Suker or Boban. The team might be more organized and defence oriented than in the past (which is not too bad actually) but as far as the quality goes it's definetely not any better.

2. Balkan boys lol - if only they played a little more like balkanians usually do, they would become successful again. The problem with balkan players is they are technically brilliant but lack of discipline. The 90s Croats and Serbs lacked of discipline BUT they could kick ass and were aggressive

3. Let me tell you how Germany will play. They usually win the first game with a high score, even though they have never done too well against Mejico in the past. Then they suck at their 2nd game and win the 3rd. Germany always gets the job done as far as consistency goes, it's probably the only nation who always makes it to the quarters each WC at least. But don't worry, Germany has never defended any of its titles, so chances are they are not going to win the cup this year.

Lot of opinion in #1.

Don't wanna be Modric's attorney but he's been playing in the best club for years now. Won everything that could be won. idk that speaks alot, none of the guys you mentioned managed to be so consistently good. I do think one of the Serbs from that generation you mention is employed at Real as some sort of functionary, but can't be sure. Also the guys you mention were all attackers iirc, Modric is a playmaker.

#2 Let's leave the leg breaking to Ramos and Pepe 😆

#3 I'll root for Germany if Croats get knocked out. It's a good team. I read that some predictive AI software puts Brazil ahead of Germany on the account of Germany having a tougher path to the finals in the knock out stage. Imo Brazil is overated and if things go tough, they go soft.....because of the hype. And then they loose 7:1

We'll see Argentina:Croatia how it turns out, that's gonna be the true indicator on how good they are prepped.

Slovenia.

Prosinecki, Savicevic and Mihajlovic have won the CL and other european and national trophies mutliple times as well, most memorable of course with Red Star Belgrade. Of course if you play with Real you are going to win trophies anyway, but Modric is surrounded by a team which has a worth of like a billion dollars. Back in the 90s only 3 foreign players were allowed playing in a club team, that means if those rules were still valid then Real couldn't have Ronaldo, Modric, Bensema, Bale, Marcelo, Navas and Kroos play at the same time, which they basically did in the last CL final. How many CL titles would they have won in this case? lol

The difference between Modric and those guys I mentioned is that they played well for their national squads as well, they beat teams like Germany or Holland easily in some WC or EC. I have never seen Modric or his team doing that yet.

You're such a Yugo-nostalgic. 😄 (i don't mean it in a bad way) Actually amazed that you know all those players lol.

The Croatia coach (Ciro Blazevic) from '98 also said that this team is better than his tho.

You say collectively they haven't achieved much, but I mentioned earlier Croats and pressure from the home public and press. That's why they don't do well, they buckle under it. We'll see how it goes this year. Argentina will be the fiery crucible to express it poetically.

Obviosuly Blasevic has to say that to make them look strong but we will see. I hope they do well against Argentina cause I don't want Messi to become World Champion. ^^
