Reading more on this thread made me realize I know more Spanish than I thought. I even caught some of the errors while reading other people's posts tambien.

Luckily, they didn't listen! I knew very well the differences in the languages I was speaking. So true! You don't use it you lose it. Thankfully I didn't lose all of it. Sadly people were discouraged from speaking Spanish in my area and my father and mother were even told not to teach me because it'll "confuse me" but my grandma was like pfft and spoke it to me and I watched Spanish speaking TV with her. Back then just one channel.
My parents used it as a way to communicate things to each other that they didn't want us to know. I'll never forget how pleasantly surprised they were when I understood a convo they had in Spanish. It's a long story as to why it wasn't able to stick. Kind of sad.
But contrary to what some believe about non Spanish speaking Hispanics I actually do love the language and would love to be fluent instead of just knowing enough to get by. It's a goal of mine.click to expand

Non Spanish speakers trying to speak Spanish is either funny, cringe worthy, or both.
