One of my favourite books, Almost French is lovely cross-cultural story of how Sarah makes her way into French life from Australia... She meets her husband, encounters professional challenges, lives young, makes new friends and the ensuing stories are warm, funny, touching and eye opening too...
Well, her newest book is out now- all about her years after Paris, she moves to Tahiti and sets out to accomplish two new goals, write another book and have a baby.. But both become a part of a more painful journey, writers block and a struggle through fertility treatments and adjusting to yet another new home and culture...
Anyway, I just got to see her talk at my local library! She was amazing! She was exactly how I imagined her to be from reading her book! And that was set almost 15 or so years ago! I even got up the guts to ask a question haha ooooh dear... Really enjoyed the talk. SUCH a fan =)
Mmm I haven't read eat pray love, it's not that "inspirational" it was very down to earth... She makes some interesting comparisons between gender clashes between cultures and also just what it's like learning to live and work in a different city / country... You know, just what the food is like, what is considered funny, fashion that sort of thing. She actually won this French award for promoting French culture you know? She fell in love with Paris and people who read the book just flooded over there- she made it sound so grittily magical...
So gooood =p
