Maybe, you should tell him exactly that and let him know that you will warm up to him once you're completely comfortable. If you were fun before, you will be fun again when you're back to your old self.
An Aquarius will know to see beyond your mask, especially that you told him you are awkward in intimate settings. You are not confusing him. He know exactly what signals you give. Maybe his unresponsiveness according to your expectations creates this confusion. You are not the only one giving "mixed" signals.
