I think the one thing you need to focus on is being his friend...if you can be our best friend first then we have room and time to develope feelings. We don't just pop up with feelings over night even if we see someone as fit material.
We have to put what we see to the test, we see you be good friends with other people then we hang around to see if you would make a good friend to us also, then if we like it we grow...but we would never express our desires if we feel we are the only one having them.

He might never tell you directly that you are in a relationship with him, bu he will give you lots of clues - verbal (like you are special to him), he will present you to his friends and relatives, he will actively show he cares about you by involving himself in your life (cooking, housework, being actively supportive).
