Could Crabs Survive an Apocalypse
Crabs are highly adaptable and resilient animals, capable of surviving extreme environments. Their ability to withstand radiation, low oxygen levels, and diverse habitats suggests they might endure some disaster scenarios better than many species. However, survival of an apocalypse depends on specific conditions and threats. Crabs' adaptability makes them interesting candidates for survival discussions.

Oh...when that 2012 NY's scare was doing the rounds (some planets aligning and doing something gravity related) me and my friends made a plan for shits and giggles.
If something happens, we break in the nearest police station/shooting range, get weapons and an SUV (the old Mercedes G was the plan-cops have it here) and visit the first mall on the route to the forest lodge one of the guys has.
We'd hole up in there, far away from pesky, starving and increasingly feral humans.
Some weed may or may not have been smoked while this was on the drawing board. 😄

In the event of some cataclysmic apocalyptic event, I would probably just be the lay low scavenger type in most disasters, but it all depends on the circumstances and how bad things are. If my family that lives about an hour away from me is still ok I'd probably meet up with them. They have guns and lots of ammunition
I think people should stock up on crop seeds and learn how to grow food before shit hits the fan too. Might not be able to settle down and grow stuff right away, but seeds don't take up space and they're light so might as well have them
Then you know, just all the other basic survival stuff lol. Water purification methods, ways to make fire. Maybe a camping bag stuffed with MRE's and whatnot

Eyes adjust to darkness.
Gas canister. Improvise.
You do not need a compass just the survival aspect of defence and movement.
Clean water is something you should actively source in the day and when planning your movement.
If a light needs to be used it must be tinted red. It is less seen at distance.

I use to know how to, learned it in girl scouts. If I can find Orion's belt, I usually can figure out which way is North though.

Flashlights-I'll steal the super uber expensive one's from my job if a disaster happens

I've been considering buying an actual freeze drying machine and vacuum sealer to freeze dry and seal up food to stock away.

Not necessarily. Radiation travels with the wind, so if you don't get hit by the blast, travel away from the blast area and as much as possible against the wind.

Honestly, I would never go into any heavily populated area to look for supplies of any sort. That's just asking for trouble. I would more than likely just go look for supplies in areas that are populated with only a few people to begin with. lol
One possible disaster people should at least be aware of too, is an EMP that wipes out all electronics and makes them useless. The EMP could be a manufactured bomb dropped over an area or an EMP can possibly happen from large solar flares, supposedly. We are so fucked if this happens so much of what we use and do nowadays is dependent on technology lol. Cars, financial transactions, no internet, and so on and so forth. There's probably electronics involved to some degree in tons of basic things that I'm not thinking of that would be made useless. I think batteries, like duracell AA batteries will still function if this happens but I'm not sure. So flashlights are good to have for any disaster too. Also old school paper maps would probably be good to have. They're light and don't take up space too

Hmm, I'm thinking that while the batteries would be fine the rest of the radio would be probably fried and useless, and wouldn't work. Electronics not turned on during the EMP wave would be fine.
Someone did an analysis of a weaponized EMP strike and found most consumer electronics would probably be fine even if turned on. To get a pulse strong enough to fry electronics over a continental scale would require numerous nuclear devices. At that point, it would be more effective to just use the nukes to target hard targets since the retaliatory strike is going to blow you into atoms anyways.

However it is possible an EMP device could be used by a government on its own people or by a group of terrorists not officially part of a government
But yeah, I'm not saying it's likely to happen or anything, especially after hearing this. But I think we should still keep in mind what we would do if a lot of our electronics didn't work anymore

If you do the Mormon thing, one years supply of food and water.
You can improvise catch basins for water, but you might have to purify it.
If you're in a pinch on that end, you can make a solar still.
I'll need to find the article I read. The gist was using a nuke for an EMP attack was a massive gamble for any nation to try since the effects are only hypothetical and extrapolated from controlled tests. A rogue nation like Pakistan or NK would rather play it "safe" and target the Pacific Fleet or even DC if they can sneak it in a la that Jack Ryan movie with Ben Affleck. A superpower like Russia or China knows the theory of MAD and wouldn't waste time on trying an EMP attack when they know just 1 or 2 of our Trident subs will turn their country into a molten hell hole and a continental EMP attack wouldn't neutralize those.
Now...EMP from solar or extrasolar sources are a different story. We KNOW those can cause disruption, so protecting against those SHOULD be a priority which would in turn also prevent a hypothetical nuke attack.
On the bolded part, if you have a country gripped by an ideology that say promises glory by flying planes into an enemy, or considers the "other" as subhuman and inferior, the insanity might overcome the natural instinct of self preservation. Similar argument would apply to non-state actors.
