I'm not a big fan of open games like GTA because I don't want to waste too much time into games and I'm not a big fan of the gangsta culture. Although I did love mafia 1, I think it's the last game I played.

I don't want multiplayer games because ou can just spend your whole life playing multiplayer games and I already did that during my 20s. I prefer games with an ending, with a good story and/or good gameplay, I don't really care about graphics quality.

What about Telltale games?

Do you like simulations? I love them. Some have generic games but all are great:

Papers, Please

Cook, Serve, Delicious!

Jalopy

Pixel Shopkeeper

Stardew Valley

Poly Bridge

Train Valley

PC Building Simulator

Cooking Simulator

Telltale games are disappearing from the digital stores. I wanted to buy the GOTG game during the 2019 sales but it was removed JUST BEFORE the sales.

Most of the games you mentioned are not my cup of tea or i don't like for various reasons, but thanks for the recs

after making this thread I bought a bunch of games , I have 127 in my library and only played 66. So I won't buy new games for a moment.

Here are my personal favorites from all I've played in 2018:

-VtMB

-divinity 2 developer's cut

-FTL

-kotor 1&2

-penumbra trilogy

biggest deception was bayonetta. I need to remember not to play jap 'games' again.

Rigt now I'm on star trek online and metro 2033

You ever played any of the Fallout games? I love them.

Fallout 1 is the only really good game in the franchise. Everything after that is just pop culture recycling with toilet "humour".

F1 was still a rather realistic game. It was expanding on a a tradition of post-apo tabletop games from the 80s and it could be taken seriously. Simulationist mechanisms were interestingly used.

Second game was just the same but larger, you were assaulted by a barrage of 4th-wall-breaking jokes, simpsons-grade edgyness and pop culture references. At one point you reach a city and there's a chinatown district and there's a bunch of chinese gang members dressed like bruce lee and fighting using kung fu that's when I stopped playing. Game was just a long joke.

Didn't play the 3D games but they look like they're just playing on the lore of the previous games with more "haha"

BEST GAMES I PLAYED IN 2019

-odallus/-until I have you /- deadfall tropics /-volgarr (a bunch of indie/retro platformers)

Mmm blazing chrome perhaps? is basically like old contra.

there's the one's that the guy from castlevania made, bloodstained curse of the moon (retro castlevania) and bloodstained ritual of the night (neo castlevania)

I'm not sure but I think door kickers is basically a little like hotline miami, although those are not my kind of games tbh you should check it out first to be sure.

I've played all the fallouts but vault 76. They are still great. If you want the brutality of F1 and F2, just play the others on hard and very hard.

Papers please.

nah I avoided this game because it was to hyped by the hipster indie media. Plus it looks like some simpleton communism bashing.

I'm playing Darkest Dungeon right now. It's not a masterpiece but it's very comfy to play.

[EDIT] darkest dungeon is kinda overextended and gets tiring after 40 hours of the same thing

You've pretty much shit on everything everyone recommended, and since steam as a platform is pretty shit in general just go and scroll through the hundreds of cheap shitty games while picking nothing at all in the end. The gaming industry is trash imo, so stick to the classics or pick some random indie game. At least it will have some actual soul to it.

another shit idea by soul, thanks for participating

Arknights?

Gacha games are too abusive with my time, and I don't like the waifu style but thanks.

I've played about 70 games in 2020, but most of them were bad and I played less than one or two hours. Granted I like to buy indie games on steam and review them, so I'm used to bad games, but I'm still hoping for the hidden gems.

Last good one I played was an "adventures of lolo" clone called "double invasion" but it's really obscure.

I'm going to play "killer 7" next. It's very hyped so I'll probably be disappointed.

I haven't played a commercial game since 2003 and it is the steam sales.

what should I play?

The Sims preferably TS3 venture as it’s great for real life simulation.

Cities Skylines is great if you love city planning and building. Think Sim City but way more advanced and detailed.

You can YouTube these options btw just to see what the game graphics and style look like.

Any of the Assassin Creed options are great, but I love Ancient Egypt and the Odyssey. I mean looking at how they’ve managed to bring to life Ancient Egypt and Greece is so breathtaking.

Planet Coaster, is the successor of Roller Coaster Tycoon. Much more detailed and the design fits the 2020 graphic framework.

Sorry if these have all been mentioned before

thanks for the suggestions, I already have more games than I can play, this thread is more a pretext to talk about games if anyone wants. As for your suggestions:

-not my cup of tea

-maybe

-NO

-not likely

Also thanks duncan for enabling old threads back into the "latest topic" list

Yeah, I haven’t been here for awhile so it takes getting use to again. I keep forgetting to check the date and see when the initial post was made lol.

What games did you end up going for?

No problem, it's actually better now, it makes more visibility for old topics rather than restarting the same topic every time.

I bought a bunch of games but I can't remember one that struck me as particularly good.

Posted by VictoriousI'll even say you can skip DOS1 too. Unless you're adamant you need the full story. I had DOS1 too but never finished it, Dos2 on the otherhand I found to be much more engaging.

Same experience I had with BG1 and BG2. Never finished the 1, but the 2 was GOAT.

POE1 was really too cringe to make me want to try the sequel though.

My top 10 games played in 2021(best at the top):

-synthetik : cool roguelite. A spiritual successor to Berzerk (a very old arcade game).

-call of cthulu : Pretty good walking simulator. Low interactivity but you can change the final outcome through dialogs. The best lovecraft adaptation I've seen so far.

-renowned explorers: Roguelite game with weird mechanisms but good narrative aspect and very refreshing

-killer is dead: Terrible buggy port but it's cool as a katana

-alien isolation: This game has a fantastic retro futurist design and the levels are a pleasure to explore, but the gameplay is boring and the story is soulless like an hollywood remake. Some people here would probably love it though

-spacenet: minimalist adventure game. cool

-dominion: combination card game with big replayability

-monster train: not as tight as slay the spyre but music is great and it's a bit of a change

Gonna play less games in the future, most big games are boring and unoriginal, I already have abunch of small games with replayability so I'm getting saturated
