A lady in the town i live in (a heavy smoker) told me she heard of a little girl whose family all smoked. She started to get a sore chest and her doc sent her to the hospital for an x-ray. They discovered she had a *shadow* on her lungs 😢

My mother had a friend who was having chest problems and went to the doc who examined her and asked how many she was smoking a day, when she replied *i have never smoked but work in an office with smokers*

Non smokers, would you put yourself in an environment where there are smokers and if you had to be in that environment for any reason, would you speak out about your concerns over passive smoking?

As an adult there is not much you could do, after all smoking even though it is harmful to ones health, it is still a personal choice.

Unless if there are laws in place where you reside, you might as well try to prevent yourself from being in environments where there are smokers for an extended period of time.

To have others change their personal preferences to fit one does not seem fit, when there are always choices or places or venues where non-smokers enjoy visiting. There is always a place for all.

I was with a family last week who smoke. When i got home, not only did my hair and clothes smell horrible, my chest felt very tight...i find it a bit worrying. I am going to stay there again this weekend.....not sure whether to say anything or not?

Ugh, they smoke inside their home? Yuck! Hate the smell of smoke and that it get stuck in hair and clothes. I had a boss that smoked inside and my hair always smelled awful when we were working together.

Yes they do. Their whole house stinks of it. They are lovely people, but seem to be unaware of the danger it could do to their grandchildren...

They can't be that oblivious that they don't know passive smoking isn't good for the kids? If they are maybe mention it in a nonjudgemental way to see how they react.

I am trying to find a way to raise it without being disrespectful of them. It is their home and i don't want to offend them, but evenso, it is playing on my mind, especially as far as the children are concerned.

Yeah... there's absolutely no way to bring that up politely.

Yeah I'd totally speak out. I've lashed out at certain people in past over this.

It's not public tho. She's going to be staying in their house. Their house, their rules. The choice is hers not to stay.

Yes absolutely....that is what I am thinking...their home....their choice

Either I lump it or like it

Oh, me too. I once saw a woman smoking in the driver seat, parked up....she was petting a dog who was in the passenger seat and a little girl was crying in the back seat ...she was ignoring her. Some people are disgusting

This is called "Second hand smoke". I feel sorry for her AND others who are sustained by this (their choice or NOT) 😡

🤗 cyber hugs!

Love,

Eva

PS: That's why when I date my SO CANNOT smoke....see ya wouldn't want to be ya! 😆

I work specifically with lungs and a huge focus on cancer and one of my family's, daughter died at age 27, she never smoked a day in her life but was raised in a smokers home. Died from lung cancer directly related to smoking (some lung cancers are genetic and have nothing to do with smoking) I can't even find the words to describe that families grief, it's just heartbreaking and to know what it came from, I feel for those parents. The reality is, 2nd hand smoke is proven to be as dangerous as smoking.

I generally look down upon smoking and I think that it's the smoker's very own responsibility for their health. If you like smoking, more power to you. Just don't do any harm to kids or people who don't want to be exposed to this stuff.

As far as the main topic goes, I don't plan on smoking and I would never work in a place where my health is in danger. Along with that, I usually try to be as polite as possible, but I frequently end up moving 10 meters in a different direction and ignoring the smoker.

So i was staying at the house again last weekend ... i only stayed for one night this time as couldn't hack two. When i went to bed, i could smell smoke all night and before that, the sitting room was like a fog and i started to feel sick. The next day, on the way to our course, my friend was smoking in the car...just horrible

The next day i told them i didn't sleep a wink and felt sick...they still didn't cop on. I said i would stay in my own bed and drive to her house next time and we could share the driving....still didn't catch on

Yesterday i got a phone call from my friend and she said they were worried about me, so i told them...i said that i was slow to complain as it is their lives and home. I said my chest felt tight and my hair and clothes smelled of smoke and it made me feel sick....surprisingly she was very understanding and apologized and said she should have been more thoughtful and mindful. I said i wouldn't be able to stay over again and would it be best if i drove myself to the course?...she said that she wanted to travel with me and would not smoke. She kept saying sorry and saying how worried they were about me. I expressed that i found it difficult to approach as it was a sensitive attitude (they are addicted, bless them)

After reading further about second hand smoke, there is no way i will put myself in that position again....i felt really ill. Luckily i have been able to cleanse myself...sea air, massage with frankincense oil, etc and am starting to feel better.

Now i have the challenge of the granddaughter/niece...she lives with them and is breathing the smoke in all the time. I will approach it gently and say i am worried for her, that she could be affected by the smoke. I doubt they would choose to take offense, but if they do, so what? I have to speak out.

That's very good that your friend was understanding when you explained how it was for you.

My father smoked, usually a pipe, but he always did it outside so I wasn't exposed to it growing up - he was aware of the dangers back then, and that was the 70s and 80s. I'm surprised that some people aren't aware now when there's much more information on it.

Some of my friends smoke but they smoke outside and even so they always ask me if it's okay if they smoke when I'm with them. As long as it doesn't blow in my direction, it's okay.

I wouldn't be able to work or live in a place where people smoked indoors - it makes me feel very ill.

I live in a state that's gone all nazi on smoking in public. Same with vaping. You don't really run into it unless you wander by the smoking section of wherever, or hang out with people who smoke.

I have a group of friends who are smokers, but they're considerate because they know I don't smoke, so they try to stand down wind.

I grew up with parents who smoked, in the house, no less. At some point, my mom stopped smoking inside after my dad died and it was amazing how much more sensitive my nose became to smoke as well as being around it. She quit cold turkey a few years later, so the exposure at home completely went away.

Thanks guys for your comments 🙂

I just messaged another friend of mine who has had an op on her knee and i wanted to call to see her. She is a heavy cigarette and weed smoker and i said to her that maybe we wait till she is able to get out so we can meet for coffee (no smoking policy here...thank God). I explained about the intolerance to smoke i have. She writes back *Lol, ya mad woman*. Really? She didn't say *i wont smoke for an hour or so*.....even though she has been pestering me to visit her. It seems people choose their addictions over friendship and family (she smoked in front of her little girl and still does)

How sad is that?

I spoke to the woman i am doing a course with and said i couldn't tolerate the smoke so i wouldn't be staying over again. Also i said the smoking in the car was a bit much and that i would catch a spin from one of the other girls. It turns out she wants to share the driving with me and promised not to smoke in the car. I said that didn't seem fair on her, but she insisted. When i met her at the weekend she says *there is no argument ... you are perfectly right in what you say*

She told me that people never challenge her as they are afraid to (she is a tough Capricorn woman) and then said she thought i was very brave to speak out. It turns out that she and I are getting on better than ever so i guess the moral is to always speak out especially when it concerns health issues. Maybe also, (like all of us), she needs challenging

All's well that ends well 🙂

Used to smoke, but quit. Now it bothers me when I'm around smokers, because I get paranoid on inhaling the smoke and messing up my progress, lol. Smoked for like 4-5 years?.. Something like that.. Haven't smoked in over two years though, or something like that, honestly been so long I stopped counting.. One of the best things I did.. It was completely pointless and does nothing be destroys the body. Anybody who reads this, take it from a legit non smoker and quit while you still can.. All you do is destroy yourself.
Well done for giving up....not easy at all

Second hand smoking is very damaging...I have heard of cases where people have experienced lung issues and not having smoked at all but through living or working with smokers...how crazy is that?

I was shocked to hear that a pack of cigs now costs over 11 euros....
