Yes, you are right Lena, respect does have to be earned. But, I am always surprised when an adult EXPECTS respect, but, throws their weight around and shows disrespect to others. I think it is much more mature to show respect in the first place...it is usually returned. If it isn't, well then, what the hell...show a little disrespect yourself, I say!! LOL!

Oh, and another thing...respect needs to be taught. It is taught by example. That is how I taught my daughter and she and I get compliments all the time about how she shows respect and has good manners.

There is a lot of general disrespect present in the world today...it is sad really.
A woman who works at our favorite department store was complimenting us and relaying how many people don't even hang up the clothing after trying it on...they just leave it on the floor in the dressing room! Once a clerk overheard a mother tell her daughter that she didn't have to hang the clothes up...she told her that is what THEY are paid to do! The clerk informed the woman that they are there to ASSIST, but that they should hang the clothing back up...unfortunately the woman argued with her and it became unpleasant...
