But will ask some questions in the thread that pertain to season 2 so I can get opinions

Okay so I would like to know everyone's thoughts on if a longer season is sustainable?

This season was only 3 1/2 weeks + will be 1 1/2 weeks of playoffs. So a solid five weeks.

However only 11 games to qualify for the playoffs is not much when 1 team could realistically play all 11 games in a week or a little more than a week and then have to wait weeks until the playoffs.

So with different teams going at different paces its hard to figure out a way to even it out.

So I felt like a much longer season would be better off. With a cap on how many games a single team can play every week.

I also thought about realistically how many seasons should be in a year on DXP. Shorter seasons would mean like 3 or 4 seasons a year, but I feel like that is oversaturation. To me a long season early in the year and then a long break and then another season late in the year seems more logical to me. Yet at the same time people may lose interest in a long season.

So to me the pros and cons of a longer season are

PROS

-Some Teams can still play a lot of games while other teams can still play a little amount of games at a time, but have a longer period of time to catch up

-Players can have a more lax schedule during the season and not try and cram a bunch of games in towards the very end at the last second.

-Perhaps the season going over a longer period of time can have more people/more teams join when their schedules slow down for certain times instead of constantly trying to play within a few weeks.

-Also gives me more time off as to not have games up every single day so people can play enough games within the shorter season

CONS

-Players could forget or get disinterested as season goes on

-Thread will get huge so that could actually dissuade new players from joining the game.

-It won't be like a typical DXP game where you only have to pay attention for a few days to a few weeks.

-Regular season games will mean a bit less in the beginning of the season since there will be more games, but could mean closer standings late in the season with more than just a few teams.

I think it could go a bit longer than the previous season. You could also divide the season into rounds (like maybe 3) and make a thread for each round, so the threads won't get too long?

Thank you for your opinion. I did think that maybe multiple threads for the season could be an option and I do like that idea

You need to make topics on each sign board when you launch this.

We can also help by tagging people we think would be interested.

I'm sure the length of the topic has people intimidated. Well not intimidated but no one sits to read that much to understand what is going on, only topics this long that get read are the drama relationship ones.

I subscribe to cvurko about making a topic for players to talk in. Players' Lounge for example, we can comment in real time then so we keep the main ones as short as possible.

I'm more for the long season than the shorter one. One day break between matches at home/ away. This was every day, although it was good we gambled on those the next day we still had limited time to do so. 4 hours imo is not enough and won't work with people's schedules.

Multiple threads seems a good solution for me as well. Maybe we can have a thread where we can communicate with each other and laugh about the game and another, more structured thread, that will not overwhelm new players and will make the game easy to understand (in which we will write our prognoses)?

2 longer seasons per year seem ok with me but i have the same concern as you do - will players get disinterested by the longer season? Especially if they dont have any teammates? Maybe we lack advertisement 😄 A lot of teams didnt reach the 11 games cap this season and there was a significant amount of teams that had no players at all. Maybe if it is possible to make a joint team, say Sag Moons + Sag Suns, there might be more interest?

Personally, im fine with a longer season and playing alone in a team does not bother me.

That is a really good idea about a separate thread for banter to keep the game threads shorter. That will def be an addition.

Yeah I do wish there were more teams in the mix as barely more than half had a player or more. That is a goal to grow more teams some how. Ive also considered that if the same teams dont get players on them next season, perhaps people could start reppin their mars or mercury signs if need be.

Im glad people think they can handle a longer season.

In a perfect world there would be an actual schedule where every game is set up like the playoffs are set up with multiple questions rather than just 1 question counting as a game. With actual home games on the sign boards lol. But thats over doing it and wishful thinking.

And yeah I did think about doing both series on opposite days as in #1 vs #4 one day and then #2 vs #3 the next but that would have made it longer for me

I actually feel very ill today so this is short.

I think too many separate threads in regular season would actually be overexposure. Seeing 'DXPIL' threads all grouped up in one forum, people are going to avoid the irritation.

I do understand about people being discouraged by a long thread where all the players have bonded and making in-season jokes but most of the direct feedback in the thread about people not playing was that they just didn't get it (what's not to get about the game? I don't know. Seemed straightforward enough to me)

I like the idea of separate playoff threads though. Seeing the team names versus one another in the thread title could promote the tribalism around here

First-hand perpesctive on playing the game: best part for me was working with some match on stream in the background, knowing other DXPers are watching and we're all weirdly emotionally invested on some level. It was more intense than expected lol

Especially the Capitals sinking that winner in OT against the Sabres.

I figure if you have a long season then maybe promote this as a strength of the game from the start. That it's about finding others who are watching live events with you (you see people who are asking 'who else is watching this show?' in television forum all the time and they rarely get the number of responses they want because it's not a visible forum. Something tells me these are your next draft DXPIL players)

Keep scheduling the seasons at times when people least want to go outside and want a TV buddy. Like in winter after January when family is gone and there's only cats 😢

In the playoffs it was disorienting for me that I had to think about the next game day's stakes before the current game was even over. I had to keep constantly going back on pages in the thread to remind myself what was at stake when and where. That's a plus to a longer playoff season, I like D's suggestion of a day between playoff games.

There needs to be an incentive for people to build and tweak their teams even during off season but I haven't thought this out yet. Maybe something around the Twitter or team graphics. Just little bonuses to be won to make it feel like it's their team. I'll support with whatever is needed. I'm planning on writing much less here after I move but the graphics are enjoyable.

Yeah i can see how the playoffs can be disorienting. This championship may be the same way but next season ill do it with the spacing inbetween.

I guess you're right about too many threads could be just too much. Tho I do like a separate thread to talk about the games with the game thread just being just about the games to keep it shorter.

It has been fun with hockey usually being the sport on last within close games. It surely does up the intensity lol.

And yes any team that wants to do their own graphics or wants me to post something on twitter is fine by me. I certainly encourage team pride! lol

- Max out teams at 20. Allows people to join and rep the sign/planet they wish.. not just Sun/Moon. Only one player to a sign/planet combo. Not that I don't enjoy a team game, but it keeps players from ditching a losing team, and coat tailing into the playoffs with a winning team.

- Since there are numerous sign/planet combinations.. allow players to trade to a different sign/planet combination that haven't been claimed after so many games played. If a player trades, their old team falls off the map. They start from scratch.

- 4 divisions, 5 teams per. If a team trades sign/planet combo, they still stay in the same division.

- I think that you can make the season as long as you want, with as many games played as you want.. but you should rework the way you do the standings so that playing more games doesn't hurt you in the standings. It hurts those that really want to play a lot of games.. but might have a lower record at 20 games.. than someone with a better record at 15.

- However, the above could be fixed by doing the trades and sign/planet combo above. (we can discuss on FB if you're not sure what I mean).

- 8 team playoff. Division leaders get the bye weeks.

- # of teams in divisions and # of teams in the playoff can be changed depending on # of players in the game.

- I think two seasons a year would be good. Fall season and a Spring season. I like that there are games to play such as the stock market and temperature.. but you're limited when it comes to sports and the seasons.

I may think of more later.

A lot of this is ideally what I would do in the future if we ever have enough teams. I would certainly do divisions and what not. I can't yet not knowing actually how many teams there will be. Same goes for more teams in the playoff. If there was 20 teams I would do 8 teams in the playoff. I have also considered 6 teams with top 2 teams getting a first round bye. Or even similar to baseball where the 4th place nd 5th place have a 1 game wild card and winner plays #1 seed, but we'll have to see how many teams there are first.

I'll probably keep it to a team game, but I do like the idea of people being able to join any placement of theirs which will probably be implemented.

As for the Game board, even with the front page bumps, there are some boards games, books, aries, where threads go to die. :/

My only concern with the longer season being schedule early year and late year is that....tho thinking very far ahead....the season at the end of last year and then starting quickly again earl 2017 could be a problem, but we'll see

Also I forgot to mention that maybe a points system like hockey or soccer would help the standings for teams that play more, but then at the same time that means the teams that dont play as much would then have to rush towards the end of the season so idk?

Well it was straightforward in that you either choose your Sun/Moon sign team and choose an option for each of the game.

I didn't really get how to win those games, particularly the sports ones. I told Nights this one night during the first regular season, cuz he had only sports games open at that time. I literally picked a team in a question because I liked their team name more than the other team LOL. Nobody answered when I asked how do I research those stats for the sports teams. *looks at Dazed and Nights* 😛 So I kinda just winged it with the results Google gave it for the sports teams.

So maybe balance out the sports questions with something related to watching shows or music for people. More diversity of interest.

At least until everyone is hooked mid-season and then Nights lets the ice hockey questions gradually take over the game 😛

I think everyone who was left to play in the playoffs was legit looking forward to the ice hockey once we all got used to it.

In this context, it would be nice to balance out the questions in terms of cultural preferences, because most of the questions asked were sooo non-European culture. I felt sincere joy when a football match (soccer -.-) was featured in the question. I dont know if that wont make it way harder for you, but it will probably create more interest from non-US members. 🙂

I did try and put the football games when there are good ones.

When Tennis picks up again Ill do more of that

I tried to do boxing but that is such a dying sport its hard to find info on the fights

I did look into Rugby games but also hard to find info on

And sports like golf and race car driving are tough to do cuz there is such a big field of people to pick from

The only annoying thing about our football is a match can end three ways into of two, which draws out the whole process if no one won the bet. Sometimes that makes for cliffhangers (like last night) but sometimes I appreciate the fact American sports always force a winner.

Sports wise I do hate ties in sports

Tho DXPIL wise I actually do kinda like the possibility of ties in regular season or the possibility of a playoff game going to overtime lol
