Why should be constrained to vote for people that particular signs board hypothetically (not realistically) would choose when I don't know shit about them?

How's that better than people voting for who everyone else is voting for or is the most popular seriously lol—

That's increased participation surely.

imagine a most helpful award where the nominees are two people who start shit.

or biggest kiss ass award between two eminently sensible people.

then you'd really not see any inflated egos or predictable results.

That would make the choice harder but the person voted wouldn't be a true representation of what your voting for in the first place... (At least in the scenario you are proposing unless we are to change the format to having the exact opposites voted for a category they don't fit purely out of humor and good fun).

Plus, where's my motivation to vote for them if neither of them are people I know anything about to form some kind of opinion based off my observation of them historically?

I was looking at it from the humour perspective but then again most of my humour is based on chaos which isn't to everyone's taste.

Your last question is a personal question. I have no answer.

Cool Cool

Yeah if the purpose was for humor then that format would be fine as it wouldn't really matter then. But, I still think people would apathetic on voting for people they don't even know in this case too... just cause they won't even see the humor or irony in the candidates to choose from if they don't know anything about them.

I know it sounded like I repeated myself but I swear I didn't!

Biggest Thread Derailer.

I personally think that all votes should be done anonymously. That would lessen certain votes being swayed a certain direction. I do understand there that people are more comfortable with others, but they shouldn't feel that they should vote for someone because he/she voted for them. I think it would also encourage new comers to weight in because no one can say "Who the fk are you and why did you vote me Biggest Man Titties?!?!?'..." Each sign can have a designated tallier, so it doesn't all fall one person's shoulders.

That's all I got.

I like it 🙂

Yeah that's a very good point.

Would definitely require people to base their votes off of information personally gathered over time outside whats happening in the thread.

Maybe using a third party site like SurveyMonkey can keep the anonymous character of the vote.
It also eliminates changing your vote, both from changing it due to perceived slights or other dynamics going on.
The trick would be to have several different people responsible for posting the results. This prevents any accusations of tampering with the results.

Just my 2 cents.

365 days.

Right?

365 days from now, you think this place is going to have the same members? Fighting about the same stupid shit?

Exactly. None of these answers or changes are going to reflect the actual awards. Too many people leave Dxp in a years time.

Wut? People around here have been here for years and they remember shit like from years ago lol.

And another issue you just brought to my attention is that none of the new people are participating. It's all a crowd of oldies who have old drama that spill into the new thread, like someone mentioned earlier. Thus is why preparation shouldn't be too ahead of time so the newbs can have a reason to participate.

If my understanding is correct... Robyn posted Advertisements for the awards to on every signs board tell "everyone" to come vote. It had a direct link to the thread no less.

I saw it once. However, an advertisement obviously isn't giving them a reason to interact. Allowing them to become personally involved with the voting and choosing categories is what I was referring to. Doing all the preparations now will neglect the new members who show their pretty faces in a year.

Nonetheless, the OP and I have an understanding of what this thread is for, so it doesn't matter anyway.

I agree if you could actually get them to participate that would be cool.

And doing it personally, instead of with an advertisement, would allow you to add more depth to the new person as to why the should participate.

But, still they have nothing to base their vote on right? They are new... They don't actually know anybody here?

I doubt many would be all that motivated but who knows lol?

if all votes are anonymous then whoever is tallying can just say whoever they want to win is the one who got all of the votes. when i tally tomorrow the thread will stay up and whoever wants can go through the thread and double check me to make sure that i was telling the truth and didn't just give all the wins to my friends.

totally anonymous voting is just asking for trouble.

I see your point but couldn't each person just have you post their vote with an Identifiable set of numbers they give you so they can see their vote vote and match it against what they actually PM'd you?

I mean if someone makes a claim that they did vote that you can always take a screen shot of the PM and post in the thread... And could even send a follow up e-mail of what page you posted their vote on in case their is any lag time between them PMing you and when you actually post their vote to the thread. Or to save time you could have someone work with you to do the follow up PM.

This, would seem to prevent any kind of trouble that could occur and even if it does you got stuff to back you up.

I wish u guys would take this topic more seriously...

-_-

I seriously think that every should pool our moneys together, get some coke and hookers. I bet everyone would be in a better mood and would not be bicker about something so dumb as High School Senior equivalent yearbook popularity contest.

I'll second that. But I want whiskey instead of coke.

Psst. Bring the piecake.

Hahaha

Im just reading through this and piecake jumped out at me

Award idea: DXPer most likely to get away with murdering someone.

Haha... Good

I find —best?? too subjective a criterion upon which to cast a vote. It also inevitably devolves into a popularity contest, to which I am fundamentally opposed for the simple reason that everyone already knows who the most popular members are.

Now, if there were to be additional/different categories, as others have suggested, it could be much more entertaining. Keeping an eye on the negativity of the categories could have a positive effect, as well. I won't presume to speak for anyone else, but I don't see where casting a vote for —most hated?? has much opportunity to bring about anything positive. —Most likely to be violently assaulted with piecake in a dark alley?? has rather significantly more positive potential.

Having the option of anonymous seems more than adequate. Some individuals are comfortable sharing their votes with the world, others are not. Public votes preclude anyone from even alleging a vote was changed or omitted. It also has the added benefit of providing suggestions for categories about which some members might be clueless. I saw worthy suggestions for several categories on which I had no prior opinion.

Separate threads for the debates and commentary worked out quite well for the last survivor game and appeared to have the welcome side effect of signifcantly the drama.

The individual board votes prior to the big shebang miscellaneous board vote seems too involved and protracted to me, but I'm not in charge.

I don't see any problem with changing votes as long as the cut off is known in advance. It would keep things more interesting and allow for more lobbying, which I see as a good thing in this application.

Easy solution for controlling the vote thread: any poster who makes a post in the thread that is for any purpose other than to vote or change a previously cast vote forfeits their own vote, whether already cast or not, and will be stricken from the receipt of any award. I also like Auriqa??s carrier pigeon and parchment idea, although I would only accept those received with their wax seals intact.

I like you.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I also like the idea of a tallying "committee"--

which has sprung organically for this year's pageantry (seraph & robyn, in addition to scorched), but may be good in the future, as well.

lol! Why was the new thread flagged?

because people already voted, they assumed we were going to get results, not a whole new thread having to re-vote and try to be more "nicer" to seraph.

wtf is this BS.

Oh. I thought that when scorched said he was going to "repost" the thread, I thought she meant exactly that.
