They need to understand their crime before then can be punished for it. Someone who thinks it is ok to hurt animals will do it again when they are out of prison because they dont see it as something they shouldnt be doing. Someone who knows it isnt ok to hurt animals but does it to spite someone (e.g killed thier ex's dog) knows exactly what they are doing is wrong so you send them to prison.

Im talking about every case. If someone is mentally unstable then they need to be made stable so they understand their punishment.

Oh don't even get me started on that. The insanity defense is so overplayed. An insane person wouldn't give two figs over what they've done. It takes cruelty and forethought to plan and execute.

Someone i know has ADHD most pleasant girl you will ever come across, was ill in bed for a week and didnt take her medication and ended up stabbing her mum. she didnt press charges but she does make sure her daughter always takes her medication now lol.

The girl who appeared to be in her teens lives in the central town of Bugojno, police spokesman Sefir Barucija was quoted by SRNA news agency as saying, but officers did not plan to reveal her identity publicly.
Under Bosnian law a person who kills or tortures animals is punishable only with fines ranging from 15 to 5,000 euros (19 to 6,400 dollars).
If the girl was found guilty and fined it would be the first such case in Bosnia.
Local media reported that girl's grandmother had told her to throw the three-day-old puppies into the river.
The girl believed that throwing puppies into river was "the most merciful" way to get rid off them, the reports said.

I remember a story about 2 young brothers who doused a puppy in paint and put it in an oven to bake. They then got unsuspecting neighborhood kids to look at the cooked puppies in horror.


They got quite some time in jail and people were arguing the sentence was too harsh. I thought they should rot in jail, tbh...children or not. They are clearly psychopaths, and will probably only go on to dousing humans in paint and sticking *them* in ovens. I don't think everyone can be rehabilitated, nor do I think we should risk societies safety by trying. Some are just bad seeds and need to be locked away (or killed). I don't care how bad their childhood was, its obviously too late to break the cycle in cases like that.

No childs a 'bad seed'. Use your fucking noggin. "yeah let's just institutionalise all the bad ones and 'rehabilitate them'. Yes cause that fucking works doesn't it?? Those systems break the human psyche further. Therefore a badly treated child who grows up and enters a punishment abuse cycle ends up worse and causes more harm to themselves and others.
