So I checked this out a few days ago but haven't wanted to respond until now. That image is brutal and it's been haunting me since. The commentary you made regarding sympathies is interesting. To me, it's not a matter of if my sympathies have the same intensity for one issue over another. My sympathies just differ.
If it's regarding suffering, abused, dying kiddo's, it strikes a completely different chord than what inspired my original post.
For example, one of my earliest memories when I was training was a call we had involving a small boy we delivered to the ER because of broken femur bone (the huge ass bone in your thigh). Now mind you, children's bones are different than adult bones. They are more pliable and will bend more. More often than not, a child suffering this type of injury is victim of severe child abuse. This suspicion enraged me completely which only worsened when I visited the nurses later who corroborated the situation.
The other one that completely struck a chord in me but in a completely different manner. This actually wasn't a call I went on but it was another child in the ER. Well behaved and polite as patiently waiting for the authorities to arrive. You couldn't really tell anything was wrong with him until you saw his skin below the neck. Apparently his father filled the tub with scalding hot water and to punish the boy, submerged him up to his neck until he was burned and blistered.
Anyways, I'm not trying to swap war stories or make comparisons to prove one is greater than the other. Your image had me musing over memories.
