Awards are individualistic in nature... Asians have a culture that is collectivist but, they have award ceremonies too nowadays.

Tell me about it.. I would never want to live in America for that simple reason. *Proud Canadian* or shall I say.. You have absolutely no clue what happens here during race weekend vs what happens during an NBA game.
Races here can bring 250k+ people into town for 3 days. They take over the entire west side of the city. NBA games average 25k people for 3 or 4 hours. There's no comparison whatsoever. Also, look at the crowd at an NBA game...it's whiter than rice in a snowstorm.
Having a black entertainment awards program isn't stripping you of any of your rights in any form that's anywhere NEAR as harmful and offensive as residents needing to leave their own neighborhoods because they don't want to listen to racial slurs from drunk rednecks.
Is it right that the races are seperated like they are? Absolutely not.
But whites in the United States really don't have a leg to stand on when to comes to complaints about racism. The country was founded...and still operates on...white privilege unfortunately.

I think the point that you're missing LIB about stations like BET is they were created and exist as an avenue for black actors, singers, hip hop artist, producers, directors, entrepreneurs etc to have their creative visions realized in an industry that overlooks minorities (all minorities not just black) and provides very little in the way of entertainment opportunities. Whether you want to admit it or not, hollywood and the entertainment industry as a whole is an extremely racist and sexist industry. While I do not watch BET, I understand the reason it was originally created. The need to give black people an open door into an industry where most are shut. It's not about segregation from other races so much is it's about empowering those within your race to be more than the stereotypes and showing that faces like theirs can make it on tv. Now if the channel completely alienated all things white, or racially otherwise then I could see the point that you're trying to make about segregation. But that simply is not the case and there is nothing wrong with empowerment to be better in face of so much adversity. I'd say that that is black people "trying" as you mentioned. Do you honestly believe that even half the shows that appear on BET would be welcome on ABC or FOX or any of the mainstream channels? I can assure you if they were there would not be a BET channel, because those channels listed above receive stronger viewership, better advertisements and reach larger audience. And while they may allow the occasional black writer, actor etc they are majorly white influenced...and that's just the facts no matter how much one might wish it weren't.
You're simply holding society to a standard we haven't reached yet...and playing the racial blame game will never get us there.

Check this thread again. Bkbella's comments insinuate a blame on whites. Then CluelessCancer has written some comments accusing JustaGirl as being "some white woman at her work that would try to get her fired", but that was in another thread.
I have an idea: We should send some white talk show hosts to try to get a job at BET. Have them submit an application and resume. Then when they get turned down for the job for being white, we'll have them submit a complaint to the EEOC. Then when the EEOC makes a decision that they may sue BET for Reverse Racism, they can then file a lawsuit against Viacom. Sounds like a really good idea, huh?
