what films /movies /shows have you watched that you just don't get??

I remember me and my Cappy mother in law watched this film a few years back, and we were both going HUH? we just don't get it.

I only vaguely remember watching it a long time ago, but I remember it really spoke to me. It's a character -and not plot-driven film so it's not necesserily designed to sell you somthing like a "messege", but rather just show you something; a time and place and its people who just by being there and being the way they are, have something to say about it.

The very fundament of the film is that it exist somewhere between the romanticized old West - the dream om a home and a sense of belonging, macho ideals, tradition - and the scepticism of the modern times... which forces the title's erratic characters to re-evalue their ideals, the image they have of themselves, and question where they truly belong. They are stranded between these positions throughout. It's an existential Western.

Your reaction is understandable because you probably expected more of a straight plot and a neat wrap-up, but the ending does not provide an end, it's simply a closer look into the characters and what they're about, and the issues moving ahead. If I remember correctly. It's cinematic prose at its finest.

In the loosest sense, you could say that the backdrop itself (times, traditions, ideals ...in transition) is one big character and the misfits are just a manifestation of that. Anyway that's my abstract take on it, from memory.

That clip with the horse you posted upset me so I couldn't watch it, animal cruelty laws were more lax then obviously lol

clark gable died after that film.

i think personally that it was human cruelty too, making that film in the desert heat.

people can get heat stroke if they're too old, or too weak.

and you're right, that poor animal being pushed like that just for a film in the heat was not thinking of the welfare of the animal.

they needed a professional horse keeper/trainer, to tell them that it's not advisable.

The godfather. I actually take pride in the movies I love and really really wanted to like this one, but I couldnt pay attention. Every time marlon Brand(or whatever is name is) started talking I'd zone out. Wtf is that guy even saying? Maybe I'd like it better with subtitles but it was a dvr recording so I didn't know how to put them on 😢 the gore and violence got my attention though, lol

lol omg

i love Godfather films.

even my sisters have all the boxed set collection. they're sooo into the mafia stuff, especially my Aries/taurus moon/pisces mars sister; she loves that shit.
Goodfellas and the like.

woody allen films make me screw up my face, it's Always about infidelity and leaving your spouse. what's with Woody allen— he's so weird. I just don't get him. And i saw this on netflix and felt so sad for the old lady. I guess it's black comedy?

Dominic Purcell, Aquarius Sun/Cancer moon,Aries Mars becomes the main cast here, as being the offspring of one of these genetic superheroes....

he looks to his past, and tries to save the day... there were just parts of the film that didnt make sense.

The trailer is well done but:

-"bioengineered nazi supersoldiers kept frozen under the arctic"
-dominic purcell, adam beach
-a scenario that sounds like the whole movie is already in the trailer

all this smells of B-movie, the type of thing I'd expect to watch on syfy channel.

capricorn moon/libra mars (stellium i think)

anyway, yeah it had potential but it felt like a comic book.

we dont have syfy channel here so it was on Netflix.

I did not get the "eXistenZ" with Jude Law to 100% . Maybe because of increasing CaCO2 in my body.

At some point I thought it could be an alternative model to the matrix. Then I failed to have a whole projection of the movie. I cannot give a summary of it.

I've seen it twice. Each time by interruptions. Then I read the wiki article about it and later I forgot it too. Maybe it is slow paced. IDK.

Lol, it's confusing by design.
It's like the matrix, if the matrix didn't suck.

we watched this action film as we saw Dwayne Johnson's in it, and i said, sure go ahead. I liked the film he did where he was in where he got out of prison and drove this Chevy like a professional.
anyway i didnt get it cause it was like a JackieChan film. It was all over the place and full of GOOFYNESS. *smh* ANd it's hard cause, Dwayne Johnson Always has this SERIOUS look on his face. Then christopher Walken is your typical bad guy and then he makes stupid ridiculous LINES which are so corny!! There's this guy who Dwayne Johnson has to pick up, and he's the silly GOOFY looking guy from, "American Pie." and even my husband says, "you can't take him seriously." Lmao!!! oh my goodness. *smh again*

Ok. another film, OMG. My Cappy mother in law with the Aqua Venus really likes Woody Allen films. I can hardly "get" his films as they're sooooo strange in that it's Always about affairs and men and women who are fickle OR, too much falling in love with writers and musicans!!! holy cow!! it's like Woody Allen's fantasies, vicariously living through the women's DESIRES for musicians/talented men who are writers, ect.

but i didnt even look deep into what she wanted us to see. She said, you're gonna like it, cause it's one of those artistic type of films. I'm like, okkkkk I did enjoy "Bird Man" awhile back. still, it was very different.

so here, Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone (AGAIN!!! and she falls in love all time with the strange, fallen artistic type) jeeezzz! and Parker Rosey or something..

People should watch it. Joaquin Phoenix really does a good job in his role as the IRRATIONAL man, in this case, the IRRATIONAL cray booze drinking Professor whose specialty is in PHILOSOPHY!! of all things.

Donnie Darko.

WTF i was like W T F

Plane-wing crashes through the roof of angsty teenage boy's room, killing him.

Rest of it is a recount of what would have happened the following days (week? month? i can't remember) if he survived and what effect it would have had on the lives of people around him. It could possibly be a fantasy scenario/wishful thinking that flashes through his mind the moment he dies. You prolly had those a lot in your ugly duckling van-cruising days? And the whole time travelling thing which basically serves as diversion from the now seemingly simple plot.... yeap all a part of the same fantasy.

Haven't seen it in nearly a decade so it's just from memory. I could be way off.

I don't know what else there is to get aside from the obvious. Spoilers ahead:

Either their minds have been permanently damaged and become in typical Cronenberg fashion an extension of their bodies. Or they are still inside the game. Ultimately it makes no difference, point is the lines between reality and gaming have become erased. You cannot tell the difference anymore. Za future is hier.

donnie darko is a good film but it was ruined by its' own success. At one point during the 00s it was annoying with all the emo kids praising it like their emo manifest or sthg.
Then with time, it got forgotten and it became watchable again.
Hollywood wil probably want to make a remake one of these days lol

i thought it was sweet, but it isn't the type of film i would go to see. My mother in law likes to watch artistic films and invite her friends and family and treat them to them.

The only movie I've watched and not "got" was A Scanner Darkly. Otherwise, comprehension isn't my problem. I don't like boring movies.

The English Patient was soooooo boring. That the world has moral ambiguity but that morality is still significant and some people lack passion isn't worthy of so much screen time. I've suffered through this WHOLE movie with a friend. I have never agreed to sit through one of her movies again. No.

And the next is a list of soul crushing movies:
The Godfather (all) (I learned boredom knows no bounds), Requiem for a Dream (I hope they're happy, I felt depressed days after watching it), 2001: A Space Odyssey (I thought it was boring because I was a kid the first time I watched. Pretentious roommate in uni insisted I watch it again. It was even worse than I remembered.), The Road (I think most women are brutally aware that raising a child during and apocalypse is as sensible as shoving steak knives up your arse), House of Sand and Fog (A movie about selfish selfish bitches).

I've heard these other movies were confusing. I suspect the people saying that didn't watch the endings. Memento, Vanilla Sky, 12 Monkeys, The Matrix, Shutter Island, Cloud Atlas, Birdman etc... I was a fan of 12 Monkey's but the others I sat through simply because I wanted an explanation, which they gave eventually.

Sometimes you must accept that there can be more than one interpretation to a story. Donnie Darko managed to evoque several interpretations and kept them all relevant.

There is no movie that I don't get. In fact I would go so far as to say that if I don't get a movie it's that there is really nothing to it because I generally get everything a movie is trying to convey most of the time. 🥱

For this reason I really hate boring pretentious movies that are trying to be philosophical with very few intersting ideas or emotions to actually convey, stuff such as the Matrix, the fountain, mr nobody, cloud atlas, etc....
I can't stand thesse movies

"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"
"Moulon Rouge"
"Rocky Horror Picture Show"
"Milk"

Basically, if it's made by queers and for queers, then I will probably never have a prayer in hell of understanding it, let alone have an interest in watching it.

I agree with "Moulon Rouge" ad "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

The latter I accepted it as a cult movie cause the others like it. Moulon Rouge, I tried to watch it and i did not know how they came with the idea to make such a movie. Maybe I have liked it if I have watched it to the end. IDK.

Mulholland Drive with Naomi Watts

Wow, I was about to post the title of the movie when I read your post. Weird coincidence.

I don't recall the innumerable details but the structure is similar to a Möbius strip.

Image Not Found

It's multifaceted but when you look at the strip closely, surprisingly, it's not, it is the same strip revolving into itself, taking different turns. The plot is somehow comparable because the story is presented in two different sides that intersect in the middle. The twist is what creates confusion in the viewer's mind, we start looking for an end that makes sense whereas there really isn't no end to the movie, no univocal explanation can reconciles the two stories.

Basically the director is suggesting us that you can see things every time from a different perspective and everyone can have his own take based on his impressionability and understanding of the situation.

It doesn't make sense because it's not supposed to make sense given the variety of the human nature.
