but leave you cold. This thread isn't necessarily about bad movies, just movies that didn't live up to the hype.

WALL-E: Many people apparently think it was snubbed by the Academy, and that it was the best movie this year(at least!), which honestly bewilders me. I can't even articulate my point of view very well in this case, because I honestly didn't understand what was supposed to be so great about this movie. Was it the graphics? The message? It just seems like another "feel-good" movie, in a slightly different format.

The Dark Knight: The plot is idiotic, Bale's Batman's voice is a joke(albeit an infuriating one), and the action didn't really make up for it.

Let the Right One In: I liked the dynamic between the two main characters, but that's about it. The plot was meandering, and mostly progressed through a string of coincidences, not to mention the ending, which was downright ridiculous.

Slumdog Millionaire: Stupid ending, again. Most of it was just not that interesting to me(I did enjoy the part where they were employed as beggars by that annoying guy).

Now, before you get your panties in a bunch, those movies were decent, and I don't regret watching them*, they just didn't live up to the hype.

*with the exception of TDK

"( I esp. hated the dancing)"

I loved how the host just started dancing in the middle of the show. That was just beautiful, and I now imagine all major occurrences in India to be punctuated by short (song and)dance routines. Like, prime-ministers getting elected and stuff.

"In my case recently it has to be Wanted. Good grief was that a waste of 2 hours. And Sex and the City."

...People like Sex and the City?

"I thought it was all about how he accepted a vampire as his friend?"

If you thought that was good enough to carry an entire film then that's cool. I didn't.
Nice tidbit: Did you know that Eli is in fact Elias, a boy?

"Logical ending I'd say."

Er? The guy was willing to risk something like 10 million rupees despite having a 25% chance of answering the question correctly. Unless the man was borderline retarded I'd say that's illogical.

"Yama:

Wall-E left you cold— Really?? I thought it was an apt critique of both modern society's laziness and its reckless environmental policies, albeit wrapped in an animated, cutesy kind of bow....."

I guess it's a matter of cultural climate(though Xun disagreed with me last time I brought it up).
Or maybe I'm just a heartless madarchod.

"Slumdog: Yes, the ending was predicable and disappointing, but come on, the message was awesome: the power to succeed can be within your grasp, despite how lowly your origins.

Then again, I am a sucker for Dickensian, underdog, fairy-tale endings, so flog me with a cat-o-nine-tails already!"

I didn't mind the message, it's the vehicle that I'm having 'issues' with. Most of it just didn't seem innovative enough, or sophisticated enough to warrant the praises I've seen it get. It was nice, nonetheless.

"Throughout the movie it wasnt shown that he's mad about making money or about having power like his bro, only his survival skills. He was willing to go for her.... sort of a love story actually? but very much underplayed."

His whole plan was to be on TV so she'll know where to find him or whatever, wasn't it? Well, he already achieved that, and I just find it really odd that he would risk that amount of money to stay on the air for five more minutes.

There Will Be Blood ..

I like Daniel Day Louis and tons of respect for his acting in other movies. But i won't be watching this one again. Except for Plainview's adopted son, these are the most unredeeming film and character/s, i really ended up not caring about or interested in at all. i know you don't have to like the characters to enjoy a movie, but this one was different and disturbing for me. I just hated the constant evil, depressing character he portrayed THAT much. Maybe he is too convincing, but again you walk away with absolutely nothing and no desire to watch it again. Great acting, as always by DDL, just not a great/worthy movie. More of a long ordeal than entertainment. Not enough for me.

5 cold stars ..

Gangs of New York, i loved and is my favorite DDL movie.

Some other stuff I didn't especially like: Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, The Departed, Goodfellas, Starwars, The Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, and Godfather 2.

But godfather 2 was surely better than godfather 3? I agree pacino was excellent. But in 3 he was just acting a completely different character.

Oh yeah, I agree totally. I've watched all 3 Godfathers and my favorite is Godfather 2

There are a lot of movies I like, from all ranges of genre. I'm kind of a movie buff. I actually like the Dark Knight way better than Batman begins and I'd have to say Heath Ledger won me over with his incredible performance. I don't say that because of his death, I always thought he was a good actor ever since his performance in broke back mountain and after I heard he was playing the role of the joker.

I do have to agree with Wall-e and Slumdogs, though I did enjoy both movies (and I just adore Wall-e) I definitely don't believe they're the best movies of the year. I actually have yet to watch Let the Right One in. I saw the trailer and thought it looked like a very interesting movie.

I haven't had time yet to watch many movies because my schedule doesn't allow it (I kind of miss it), but hopefully I'll be catching up this summer 😄.
