"In the Pines", also known as "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" and "Black Girl", is a traditional American folk song which dates back to at least the 1870s, and is believed to be Southern Appalachian in origin. The identity of the song's author is unknown, but it has been recorded by many artists in numerous genres. Traditionally, it is most often associated with the American folk and blues musician Lead Belly, who recorded several versions in the 1940s, as well as the American bluegrass musician Bill Monroe, who helped popularize the song (in a different variant, featuring lyrics about a train) among bluegrass and country audiences with his versions recorded in the 1940s and 1950s.

Right @AerialView? When it came out I didn't appreciate it fully because they overplayed Smells Like Teen Spirit so badly. And it wasn't even one of the better songs on the disc, just more commercially marketable.
i didn't get notification on this.

lol true. Come As You Are, Lithium and Lounge Act are my favs 🙂

what about you?

Both of these musicians went too soon, both such big influences on the R&B world.

James Ambrose Johnson Jr (Rick James)- 2/1/47-8/6/04 Died of a heart attack due to partying his ass off with too much crack.

Teena Marie- 3/5/56-12/26/10 Died from complications due to a large picture frame falling on her head while sleeping in a hotel bed. She was quite possibly one of the most underrated female vocalists ever imo, lady had some amazing pipes!

December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997

Plane crash.

Didn't know he was a Cap.

He lived where I do now. Nice pics of the area 🙂

Don't even need to look at his chart to know he was a Pisces moon.

(But I did, just in case)

Before he became sick of singing it. ^

He sang about being homesick in a lot of songs. :/

How'd you know he was a Pisces moon? Game recognize game? :]

He also wrote about his wife, Annie

Something like that. 🙂

I like that song-- didn't realize that it was about his wife.

And I wonder-- the way he appears (which may be totally different

from his real self, but I don't think so)-- it seems like he would have

given LA the finger and called it a day, after he got a taste of it... but

he didn't.

And it didn't eat him alive, either, so... /shrugs

^^ With Cass Elliot, 45 years ago, almost to the day.

She's Virgo sun/moon with Scorp Venus... and kind bitchy-don't touch me,

srsly, to which he looks bewildered, but anyway-- there's your PiMoo.

But they sing beautifully together. 🙂
