Please post songs that have moved you by musicians that have passed on from this world... I'll start with Chris Cornell because I'm so saddened by his death. Soundgarden's music helped me through a really trying time in my life after having my home hit by Hurricane Sandy. Their CD King Animal was in my car when it happened, and this song got listened to over and over and brought me some peace. RIP Mr. Cornell, thank you for your gifts, your music and that amazing voice you shared with us all.

Crazy. Your thread just notified me. What a loss.

I saw him once in a 400 person venue. I was interested to see what his show would sound like and how much of his his booming voice was studio enhanced. The answer: none of it. He sings just like in his videos live (better even). One of the better shows I've been to. He did always seem a bit sensitive and conflicted.

When there was a thread on which song you identify with, I chose this one.

Ahhh Chance, I apologize not a good way to find out bad news...

I'm glad you got to see him live, his voice was otherwordly and uncomparable to anyone else I've ever heard sing. Saw him with Soundgarden a few summers ago at an outdoor venue, his vocals slammed right through your body and soul.

What a loss of a truly talented being, this really sucks.

I can't get over this. Chris Cornell was one of my favorites. I'm truly surprised at what happened. At some point he literally thought "I'm going to retire now", but not just from the stage. Then he went home, made a noose, and hung himself.

I can hardly watch this last performance of black hole sun.

I'm devastated by this also @Soul, he was my favorite male vocalist of all time. Not only did he have an unequaled voice, he wrote and sang with so much passion. His music was therapy for me through many really shitty times in my life. That's the beauty of music, it speaks to your soul.

It was really upsetting when Scott Weiland died, but it was kind of expected since we all knew the demons he had with drugs. Chris' battle with depression obviously won out, but it saddens me to think that someone who brought so much entertainment and happiness to so many didn't feel it himself....

Interesting. I had heard he didn't have a good relationship with his parents but didn't realize it was that extreme.

I agree with you regarding being genius and depressive tendencies, look at Robin Williams for example. Whatever the reason for his suicide, it still saddens me that someone can bring so much joy to so many people and not absorb that positive energy back to themselves. Hopefully some day they will understand what causes depression and find a way to treat it that is effective...

Thanks for sharing this story, it's sad how much talent & tragedy there is on this thread. But that's what music does, it brings us together from all walks of life and bonds and heals us!

Cornell was part of my childhood. : (

Me too @Reincarnation, I feel like we lost a friend, a part of us. 😢

Do you have a favorite by him? Love this Audioslave, but can't narrow down a favorite Chris Cornell song.

His Audioslave work is best.

Oooh, that's debatable. But I he nailed everything he sang, including this song, I can't listen to this without tears streaming down my face...

How could I have not posted Bob Marley? If I was shipped to a deserted island and could only choose 5 CD's to take, Legend would be my first choice...and hopefully the island would be off the coast of Jamaica 😄
Bob Marley is not dead. he is a prophet. he'll be back. 😄

everyone who died at 27.
And eerily there were a lot of them...
indeed. it's no coincidence

Why do you think that is, crash and burn age for musicians?

My son and I were discussing this the other day, how many of them go into their careers because they have such a passion for music but the fame and exposure becomes too much for them to deal with...

...

Most of his songs came to him in his head as if he was listening to a radio station and he was the only one on the frequency. For example, Black Hole Sun came to him in its entirety (the lyrics, music, melody etc.) when he was driving back from a party at 4am.

This is a great point imo... esp considering the

band's name.

I wonder if whatever was broadcasting, told

him that it would be a good idea to hang

himself in a hotel room, when no one was

around to help him... kind of puts a different

spin on the name 'audioslave', I think.

What a sad thought Monty... The news has been talking about the side effects of Antivan, the anti-depression med he was on. Been saying it for years, the pharmaceutical companies aren't about healing, they are all about money and getting you addicted to pills, and then more pills to counterbalance the effect of the original pills.

But I can't legally smoke marijuana which grows in the ground and has many medicinal properties, at least in the US.

Too true. Seems the only legal medicine are ones that get you addicted. Then they slowly raise the prices over time.

This ^^^^^^^^^ 1000%

Look at the heroin epidemic among young people, they start out stealing their parents pain meds or getting it on the street. Next thing you know they're addicted and switch to H cause it's so much cheaper.

Ever been to the funeral of a beautiful 18 year old girl that was 2 weeks away from graduating high school that OD'd on heroin? I have...Her boyfriend got her addicted, and she left rehab when her parents put her in because in NY you are treated as an adult at that age. Even though she still lived at home, they had no say.

But prescription drugs are okay because there is a shit ton of money to be made from them.

Sorry for going off on a tangent, but this is something I feel very strongly about!

This pic made me check out her info, never realized Amy was a Virgo with a Sag moon. She had the perfect RBF...

I had to google RBF 🙂

It's all mask obviously.

The first line of defense of her dreams.

She had alcohol flowing all through her horoscope (prominent Neptune; the most aspected planet conjunct Moon, squaring Sun, Mercury conjunction).

A Piscean soul, swimming in the sea of life, rejecting and enjoying the pain simultaneously..

The most telling and honest lyrics in the song

"I just..oh, I just need a friend..."

I really liked her..it's a sad realization when you see talented and good hearted people vanish like that.

This one I think is one of the most underrated. Rolling Stone had Duane as high as #2 in greatest guitarists of all time (behind Hendrix). A November 20th Scorpio, he's certainly the best slide guitarist of all time. He died at 24 when he came around a corner on his motorcycle and clipped the side mirror of an illegally parked dump truck and lost control.

Duane was amazing, and now he's joined by his brother. RIP Gregg Allman 5/27/2017

I just realized both Cancer Suns Chris Cornell and Ian Curtis both committed suicide the same way and on the same day, on May 18th.

Ian had epilepsy and I wonder if he was taking medication for it and if so if that may have increased depression and suicidal thoughts. I believe Chris Cornell's family believes his medication may have played a role in his suicide.

I just thought the similarities were both interesting and sad at the same time.
