gender war for the friday night. i'm in.
the stats are for states? what do the rest of us have to hope for, sigh...

Posted by MissKrabs
lol west coast then?
i've been on the phone with my boss until now. about work ofc. he always whines how can't i work more since he has a kid too, and that wasn't such an issue. it's irrelevant that his wife makes his appointments to dentist, hairdresser, cleans, cooks and shit, probably wipes his ass too, and all he has to do is work. and i'm a single mother with the sole custody. really why can't i. kinda relevant to those stats idk. but he can't affect my salary or my position. so i'm good.

It may be factual but you know how a topic like this draws certain...people. But a good debate would be nice. Though I personally don't feel up for it right now.

Lol a good debate being a bunch of women patting themselves on the back? And 'certain people' being those calling said "certain variables" into question.
If you're really interested in a debate do your homework. You don't even have to engage in a discussion

Oh WOW
Thanks
So smart
Never thought of this
Cause I'm a female and lack that extra appendage between my legs which makes me dumb.
It’s dumb to have penis? Seem smart if make more money than the woman doing same work. This why I say negotiation of pay is needed.

The closest you’ll get is Iceland or Finland
All Nordic states have strong traditions in fighting gender inequality. In Swedish Parliament they don't even refer to "women" anymore but instead use "the opposite gender", as gender is a social construct.
Iceland is really not the best example out of the 5 Nordic states tho.click to expand

I make the exact same in my work and it’s male dominant.
The few women that work here get coddled or their way when they complain.
I don’t respect that.
I can do every job the guys can.

https://www.heritage.org/jobs-and-labor/commentary/pay-gap-myth-ignores-womens-intentional-job-choices
"For starters, the data cited in the gender pay gap looks only at the median earnings of full-time wage and salaried workers. It doesn’t differentiate really important factors, such as education, occupation, experience, and hours, which account for nearly all of the differential in earnings between men and women.
If a woman has the exact same job title as a man, but works 30 hours a week instead of 40, and sets her own hours and telecommutes, her paycheck likely won’t match that of the man’s—nor should it.
One of the job qualities that women—particularly mothers—value most is flexibility. Flexibility is a difficult job feature to measure, [...]
Workers who seek these job characteristics often do so despite lower pay. But those intentional choices don’t show up in the statistics.
Anecdotal evidence and the choices women and men make suggest that women value job choices more than men and that their preference for greater flexibility accounts for some—if not all—of the remaining pay gap between men and women."
And that's barely scratching the surface of all the factors and variables involved & not taken into account in these "statistics".

He has also noticed men tend to be more reckless in general which involves more risk taking. This occasionally means higher losses but also means significantly higher gains (=more money made for the company) than women in the same position.

I work in a female dominated field and I make shit lol. I certainly don't make more than them , nor did I when I first started. Every paycheck is calculated down to every penny depending on where you are in your professional life, regardless of gender.

Ya'll telling me that WOMEN are so weak that they can't tell their boss they need a salary increase and get some pay as other men
maybe we don't deserve equality
when has anything ever been handed
ya'll do realize that 58% of men negotiate compared to 4% women
4%
that's wack

Posted by Black-MambaPosted by LadyNeptune
Women who try to negotiate are often negatively viewed as ‘pushy’ and ‘demanding’.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Being firm is not being aggressive.

Disagree.
If you're pushing or demanding you're not negotiating. So if you're coming across that way, you're not negotiating well.
That's the opposite extreme of my problem. My problem is I don't perceive that I've got any leverage even if I do.
I even have a hard time charging tattoo customers for work when they're super excited about it and all I have to do is give them a number. It's terrible.click to expand

Now do I want to continue to read 29 more pages of this....? Should I?

Posted by Black-MambaPosted by FeelingGemini
It bothers me a lot. I read about it and tried to discuss it with men. Not one of them, even the most sensible ones, managed to at least try to understand how wrong that is and that it actually happens. I gave up. Men protect themselves, subconciously and consciously, it's been like that forever. I hate injustice, Im still stunned and cannot believe some of the answers I got as to why it is so, why men have bigger wages.
Now that I think of it, the reason I gave up is because Im still in shock from some of the answers.
This is true, but women allow it. So...yet again whats up with the victimhood
we have women here who are saying "negotiating" is bad cause it makes women look aggressive
im sorry but that's what is keeping us behind...

Honestly, to me, in this moment, it's a lost war. Damn if you react, damn if you don't. You will be accused of being feminist, or to be a victim. But you will be accused, not understood.
The world is not built on a healthy basis regarding gender rights, so things like this will happen till there's life on Earth.
It goes deep into psychology of why men stick together, and women stick for their men, against other women. There are many things under, and I just don't think anything will change. Some minor adjustements (to keep everyone happy), yes, but nothing fundamental.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/policy-and-politics/2018/11/28/18116388/gender-pay-gap-real-equal
So I've not read the entire report by IWPR but here is vox's report highlighting one of the major issues in the pay gap.
https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/time/money/5225986/equal-pay-day-2018-gender-wage-gap Time's reporting
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/1728870002 USA Today
https://www.payscale.com/data/gender-pay-gap
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/wage-gap-gender-data-top-us-cities-2018-4
Now most of these articles are basing reporting on the original report in this topic. But that is not their only sourcing.
Unlike some I'm not going to make a statement on the specifics of the IWPR report without reading it in its entirety. But there is inequality between the genders(in some cases race as well) when it comes to wages. To not acknowledge this is absurd. And if it wasn't clear the above pertains to the US only.
obviously there is, but percentages is where the question comes into playclick to expand

Actually Boring is correct here. Gender and gender roles are defined by culture and society. In some tribal cultures there were and still are, individuals who were/are seen as both genders or neither.
in what area of the world! 2 tribes?
the majority of humanity chose gender roles, for a reason, mostly a biological reason

But that gap becomes a chasm when researchers look at women and men who have made some earnings over a 15-year period: Between 2001 and 2015, women earned 49% of what their male colleagues received during the same timespan. That ratio includes all workers who were out of the workforce for part of the 15 years; during the time they were not working, their earnings were set at $ 0 for the calculations.
