Maybe it depends on age. The older you are the less capable you become. Also, there are some people out there who never enjoyed sex at all for health or other reasons.

Bottom line: life isn't binary, and there is not one universal fitting answer that covers everyone.

I know that it can be affected by upbringing as well, childhood traumas, but I'm not questioning that.

there are so many things we could say about it. but it’s enough to say that men and woman who enjoy sex for it’s own gratification are, by very definition, manwhores and whores in the definitive sense (even if they have less sexual partners over their lifetime than serial monogamists). and for some reason that word had been turned into an insult. just the way we’re raised.

Some acts still give me flashbacks. Sadly.

I’ve never felt shameful about sex but it can be uncomfortable. When I was younger I tended to push myself past my boundaries to prove I was okay and often ended up not.

Still have automatic reactions sometimes where I think sex is the only reason men are interested in staying with me.

I’ve never felt the need to run out and have a lot of sex either because of my past I think. I always had to feel okay with them first. The amount of time that took varies but once I was in that relationship and wanted to try it out I always felt internal pressure.

But we are who we are. Man the hunter woman the nurturer. No matter what section we are in in civilization. A man goal is to hunt even if he desires to a nurturer. And a women’s is to nurturer her body is designed for it even if she likes to hunt.

Affection always was just as if not more important than sex to a human's functioning. Babies need affection from parents every single day to survive. You only need to have sex once to make the baby.

Good sex includes affection. We get affection from family, friends, pets, not just sexual partners.

I think pure affection is more a male thing. IME women aren't really fond of affection, those who say it are probably thinking about sthg else, like attention gestures or sthg.

For example I've never seen women who liked to cuddle. Not just talking about my own experience, but also observing others.

When they do you can tell it's faked. Women are more sexual.

But most men and women don't even know themselves.

sex or affection? I can do both , but I've come to think that trying to mix them is a mistake.

Now about the concept of "sex" vs "making love". I think the two are not necessarily different.

For me doing slow sex while fooling each other with love promises is just another kink. Don't take it for anything else.

[EDIT]When I'm talking about affection, I'm talking about the particular acts of physical intimacy without sex. Like cuddling. I'm not talking about just getting emotionally attached to someone. there's a lot of sex to be had and to be picky about lol

choosing affection/emotional attachment partly means:

i chose my ego over anything else

it’s the same outcome for men in general.

like hydorah said, whether there is a big dating pool or not, choosing affection is gonna be egocentric for a guy since courtship/romance is all tailored toward’s men’s interests.

the problem i’ve seen from a man’s pov is men (at least in the generation before mine) then get too comfortable living that fantasy.

then women grow to voice their own needs inside a long term relationship but, by then, they are both 50-60 years old and he’s had 30 years of her being an extension of his ego.

so by the time she tries to redraw the boundaries and state her needs between them, he has no idea how to listen. next stop divorce.

i think it’s less of a problem for younger generations but i don’t know.

I'm assuming that "affection" also includes verbal affection and acts of service (basically, the feeling of knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are loved). Do you just mean cuddling? If it's just cuddling vs. sex I'm less sure, but I'd still probably choose cuddling just in case my sexy stops working some day.
