I'm not surprised that a Virgo thinks being romantic and having a special day to show it is stupid .. pretty much sums up all the ones I know .. any excuse to ignore the heart.

Your loss.

I agree that it is a little ridiculous to have one day of the year where it is EXPECTED that you buy your significant other gifts, candy, etc. To have one day of the year directed for that is silly, but I think Valentine's day can be sweet as long as it's not the only day of the year where you show your partner love by flowers, candy etc...

Bit of a history...!

There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day. Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.

This not exactly the romanticism as I recall?. Beside as far as I know ?Valentine day? in its popular form is an American product lie Halloween and so on..!

For some it is fun and for some it is disgusting?!

Matter of taste?.!

I suppose it's a matter of how we view it, and our heart.

If the focus is on begrudgingly HAVING to spend another day expressing our feelings for our partner .. then this day would be miserable.

If the focus is on being given the gift of a special day to express our feelings for our partner .. then this day will be a blessing.

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!
We have a winner!!!

It is the sentiment, and if the sentiment is not there, then, yes, Valentine's is meaningless. My Cap ex-bf (soon to be) was this way about Valentine's, so nothing... And no birthday presents, and no Christmas presents, etc... I mean, there just days, right?

i just think if you love someone you shouldnt take it for granted, then when valentines day comes along, your conscience kicks in and you think sh!t i need to make up for the other 364 days of neclect.

"I'm not surprised that a Virgo thinks being romantic and having a special day to show it is stupid .. pretty much sums up all the ones I know .. any excuse to ignore the heart."

i think that is crap aswell, i dont ignore the heart i choose to ignore people who say its Valentines day quick treat your loved ones! if i want to show my love for my partner ill do it everyday not 1 special day of the year. 🙂

lol, ok, obviously your girl wants something for Valentines Day and so this thread has started to show your angst .. because YOU are the only person who is saying that there is only one day that a person HAS to express this ..

You said, "if i want to show my love for my partner ill do it everyday not 1 special day of the year"

Well, if you want to do this everyday .. that would include Feb 14th .. ah, dah

So, if there's no angst about showing it EVERYDAY and that day is included, then what the hell you bitching about?

Get up off a few dollars (and I know how tight the female Virgo is about spending just one penny unnecessarily) and buy your girl something for Valentines Day and quit your bitching about it .. because I know Virgo's all too well .. that IS what this is about.

You HAVE to spend money and you don't want to .. so, here you are, trying to get support and justification .. you can't fool me .. I fucking KNOW Virgo's

Spend the goddamm money and show your girl what she means to you ... geeeeez.

What does your quote above mean? To me, it sounds like a guilty conscious.

Why would your conscience kick in and tell you that you need to make up for the other 365 days of neglect?

geeeeeeez

lol, trust me .. if you anger me, you'll know it.

Understanding Valentines Day?

Sentiment .. the wanting to do something wonderful for your partner and being blessed with a special day to show it. It's a matter of perspective .. a person can detest something because they HAVE to do it, or they can enjoy it because they have another opportunity to express their feelings .. it's up to each individual.

Do you HAVE to show your love? No.
Does anybody? No.

It's up to you .. if you don't WANT to, then don't.

Furthermore, who says that a person has to even spend money to show love?

Some of the best V-Days I've spent with my partner had nothing to do with money.

If a person chooses to share an endearing moment with their partner and have a special day set aside for it .. that's what matters to the heart, not gifts.

That is exactly what i mean, that paragraph explains why i dont like do have special moments on valentines day! i choose not too because its suppose to be a day that you have to, its so predictable and expected so for example if i did something the day before or the day after thats fine.

"lol, trust me .. if you anger me, you'll know it."

ooooooo harsh words from someone so far away? you'll know it— okay what are you going to do shout mean words at me, ooooo how i tremble!!! 🙂

mmm for me valentine's is fun...because i carry great memories for relationships i had in the past...

so yes, i agree ami, we need to value our special ones everyday...but i don't think there is anything wrong with valentine's....it gives me a chance to plan something special for that person again 🙂

i just don't like the bright pink and red colors everywhere!!! lol...but besides that i'm cool with v-day...bring it on this year! my gf's bday is the day after anyways!!

vll

A long time ago, when my husband and I were .. well, it's a long story .. anyway, our Valentine's Day used to be spent in bed .. married couples are always in bed, of course .. but, we would make it special, something we don't normally participate in, or something new and exciting, sexually .. like, instead of eating chocolate, we'd melt it and .. you know 🙂

This Valentine's Day .. my husband wants to go gamblin ... one of his favorite things to do .. we usually don't really win anything .. maybe break even if we're lucky, but, the point is - we have tons of fun !!!!!!

Hopefully, they've something special going on since it's a holiday. Maybe I can take in a show or something, while he's distracted at the tables.

Does anybody else have some plans of doing something fun with your partner?

P - my husband is going to be out of town (again! on business as usual...) on V-day.... so i guess i'll just have to be my own Valentine....

And Q - yes, that is the history of Valentine's Day as I know it/heard it as well, and yes tho, i think it along with others are a product of big, consumer-oriented America...

Have fun you people with someone to spend it with!

Ah, that sucks, linda .. maybe you could get some really fabulous smelling bath oil and submerge yourself in the luxury of a wonderul bubblebath, candles, glass of wine, soft music .. and just relax .. that sounds like more fun, anyway.

Heck, maybe I'll do that while the "other" half is gambling. There's several books I've been meaning to delve into ..

Anyway, try to do something wonderful for yourself.

That's sounds really romantic, DD .. you're Cappy sure knows how to treat a lady. Sometimes NOT making specific plans and being spontaneous works out for the best anyway.

The main thing is .. to make it a day of love .. even if a person is alone, they can still love theirself and treat theirself, right?

A carriage ride by the river would take my vote over an opera .. but, either way, just because your spending it with someone you deeply for is worth more than anything else.

Have a great time.🙂

"What is your opinions on this holiday?"

Though IT IS a good way to kick the cash out from people's asses, but it's cool to me.
MOST wines are 1/2 priced and the BEST chocolates hit the selves.
