36 year old single black woman closing on a house.

Something I wanted to do with my husband. I wanted it to be a 1st for us both. I looked down on other single women, especially black, cause they were buying homes with no husband. Like stop being desperate and wait. There should be an order to things.

I just knew deep down inside. I would find a man to love me, marry me, buy a home with me.

When I say that all my beliefs are being challenged with all these retrograde planets and transits.

Apart of me is very excited that I am.building equity, have stability, making a big move for me. The other part is sad and disappointed that things have not gone as planned. Buying a house as a single black women with no kids. No man. No husband. Not even a hot date.

Alas, I write this I have to know that i have to keep living my life no matter who is in it.

It's not fair to me to miss out on a blessing because it was tailored to all my wants an needs.

So strange to have every other area in your life be amazing but my love life is a ghost town.

I will be adopting my 1st cat tho. Lol

Just some realness for a Thursday .

Don't feel bad 😱. You a strong and very independent woman!

Feel very very proud of yourself. You did this and only you did this. No one will ever be able to take your home from you and the fact that you did it all by yourself. Plus think of it in the sense when you do meet your man, you sell your home and buy a bigger home for the two of you. You only stepping onto the ladder, and who knows maybe you will be more attractive to a man who knows you are a woman who waits for no man :-)

Congrats!

I put in an offer on a place recently but was outbid. Womp womp.

I know this is a personal vibes thing...but fuck a man. I want to buy my first place on my own. I want to have it in my name and my name only.

It’s not like we can’t buy another place with a dude in the future.

Plus with the way people treat marriage/commitment...you could’ve been married, bought a house together, and divorced by now and spending crazy money to pay attorneys to fight over your assets.

The romantic fairy tale Hollywood and Disney sold us is a lie. But an effective marketing tool.

Well done girl! Do not feel bad that you bought it alone ,its a blessing that you can even afford it .I know people who are stuck in their husband's houses wishing they had bought houses alone, some are just praying for a divorce just so they can live alone for a change.while some are happy ofcourse with their husbands and kids.we never always get what we expect out of life.

I bought my first house at age 28 ,I am a single parent,I never allow a man to come live in my house cause these house-less men will bring nothing but problems and insecurities. Not to say I do not wish to have a husband one day to settle down with,I just don't want it to happen in the house that I bought. My house will be my back up incase marriage fucks me up.

Yes. Not just Disney.

My parents are still married and I do want the same.

But career accomplishments mean soooo much more than a man or marriage to me.

To each their own. No accomplishment is bigger than the other.

If I had to choose between career and a husband.

Career.

It means so much more to make a difference in the world through art.

Relationship goals are not life goals. Things over which you have little to no control are to be enjoyed as fortune would have it. The Lord’s Prayer indicates Thy will be done, not your own. This is not exclusively religious; it is evident everywhere and at all times. A little will is apportioned to you for your own pleasure, and the rest is reserved for Life.

You are always exactly where you need to be, like it or not.

And nicely done, dmv!

Profound and correct.

I lived with my ex and it was painful but taught me alot about equity within a relationship.

I could not tolerate a partner who did not contribute financially, emotionally, spiritually to a household.

There is a noticable difference between a man who has lived alone and who has house jumped from mother to girlfriend to girlfriend.

You brought your house on the onset of your saturn return.

I can understand the feeling but it just goes to show the times are truly changing in our favor. Women are now able to earn just as much as men so the need for a woman to find a man to support her changes. It was long ingrained in us from times ago, tho the tune of self pride and empowerment is finally emerging. I agree with everyone! Revel in this moment if not for yourself, but for women and African-american women in particular. It's a big deal!!

You seem to be doing pretty well for yourself, I'm genuinely proud of you! Life has it's mysterious ways. Keep your heart open and your sense of curiousity for other people, the rest will follow 🙂

I honestly never ever considered buying a house, at all. It was only till I met my Libra and things got serious that I felt the natural urge to do it, so we bought a house together 🙂

I am sorry to hear that.

But honestly, I really do think when a woman could buy something without a man in their life, they are pretty fucking amazing.

It might not sound great to you. But I just think they're great inspirations for ladies out there, that you could own something without a man telling you,

"I got you this if it weren't for me"

And making them feel like they owe them something

I think there is something really awesome about a woman being able to do it by herself! You can always buy another house with a guy, a husband etc. but a house by yourself is yours alone. It can never be taken away in a divorce or a breakup. 🙂 congrats!!!

I know a woman who’s house was bought by her and taken away in divorce...what do you mean no one can take it? It happens all the time.

I agree 100%

All the successful couples I know both have a more equal footing in the relationship when it comes to finances. I'm talking 20+ years and going strong.

She has her own money, he has his own money. They aren't together cause they have a mortgage they can't afford on their own or she doesn't work and wants to leave but won't cause she needs that quality of life. Like no, they are together because they choose to be.

If you have proof it was purchased before divorce, it is not part of the marital property. Only what happens during the marriage is part of the marital property

It was hers before marriage!

She was much higher earner.

IT was he gets her pension or the house. She gave the house to the leech...

My biggest regret is not buying a home when i had the money and the loan and home prices were cheap.

I guess like you i always thought i couldn't do it by myself. That i needed a partner.

Huge regret as home prices have quadrupled

Plus DMV homes aren't cheap so your career must be astounding

I look at Zillow everyday willing things to go down

Good on you. This is a great achievement

I got pre approved like 7 or 8 years ago and got out bided and disillusioned by the whole process and dropped out.

I waited way years to have things my way.

But the opportunity presented itself again in Feb of this year and I still wasnt sure and dropped out again.

Then like 2 weeks ago, the bug really bit me and I pulled the trigger.

I needed to hear that about my job.

Its not what I want to do creatively but its paying for my life right now and I've come to have gratitude for it while I prepare for my career change.

Great DMV! Now all the money is yours! Enjoy.

You mean all the debt is yours. Fast forward 20years and there is equity which = money.

I meant all the money you would give to a landlord...

I suppose...

Still once you factor in property tax, maintenance, insurance, mortgage insurance (if your under 20% down payment) your spending significantly more than you would renting.

Home ownership is only profitable in the long run. Or if you flip the property.

You get your taxes back at tax return season. Insurance is really no big deal.

Not having neighbors upsteirs and downstairs is beating all the expenses IMO!

Down payment? Subtract from price of the house and in a lot of cases you can do 0% or 5% .

My mortgage includes taxes and insurance less than cost of 2br apartment in my area.

Then don’t forget that you paying all these money for your own living space instead of giving it out to some stranger without return or even ‘thank you’...lol

Home is your asset. Of course if you picking one in the right area.

I live in the area where houses don’t even get FOR SALE sign because they sold as you just thinking about selling. A lot of people forget about it and buying just to buy. Big mistake!

And tomatoes from my garden...are you kidding me? Lol

Your mortgage is decades old which is why it’s so cheap for you.

It’s still vastly cheaper to rent than own. At least in most cities.

Also renting doesn’t always mean sharing walls...

Example: you can rent a 3bd 2ba detached single family residence for $ 3500-4K in my city. The same property is valued at 900k+. Meaning with a 20% down payment (no mortgage insurance) your looking at $ 3800+ per month + $ 600+ property tax + home insurance (fire and earthquake here $ 300+).

$ 3500 to rent vs $ 5k+ to own

And again, that’s with 20% down. Most people don’t have 200k lying around so actual number is more like 6k per month to own.

Can you describe the property? Single family. Multi residence. style of architecture?

I went after a foreclosure property in my ideal location. Cute duplex, Spanish colonial style . Everything ideal for what I’m looking for. Was holding my breath feeling good but got out bid.

I need the market to dip here so my dollar goes further.

So strange to have every other area in your life be amazing but my love life is a ghost town.

I will be adopting my 1st cat tho. Lol

Just some realness for a Thursday .

Congrats! You are an inspiration to all single women. And you are not alone in your thoughts. May you find the husband of your dreams some day.

LA bungalow - single family.

I originally wanted a townhouse but HOA fees are the devil. Some had fees starting at $ 400 extra a month. Townhouses are seeing listing price reductions.

That gives me nowhere to go in terms of annual increases.

I wanted as much.breathing room in terms of tax, insurance costs as possible over the next 10 years.

Too often ppl squeeze their wallets after 3 years and have less disposable income.

I get full control over my residence.

Plant my own flowers.

Paint my own door.

Control my own landscaping costs.

Turn it into rental property

$ 3500 to rent vs $ 5k+ to own

And again, that’s with 20% down. Most people don’t have 200k lying around so actual number is more like 6k per month to own.

It's more expensive to rent in my area.

Cheaper to buy, if you have the means.
