You are correct these people are not from Alaska. Also, they do not even accurately represent Bush people. They are certainly not who they say they are. They don't even live in Alaska and when they do they live at a lodge while they are filming. Altogether, they were charged with stealing $ 20,000+ from Alaska claiming they were residents, but they are not. It's just a TV show. Never believe reality TV shows. I have been working with the local film festival for 8.5 years and have learned a great deal about films.

I haven't watched an entire episode, so I don't know the characters. From what I have seen though, they seem like mental cases/forced acting and it definitely does not represent how Alaskans live.
Some Alaskans watch it for cheap entertainment.
