Watch the X-files revival?

It's seriously reignited my fangirldom for this show.

I remember hearing about it awhile back when they announced the 6 episode series and wasn't quite sure what to think. But when I saw it, it was like, "omg I fricken missed this show." Considering it was back in the 90s and can still hold its own today says a lot about it, tbh.

The entire series is available on Hulu and after much skipping around to various episodes, I've decided to start from the beginning and work my way through (assuming they don't take them down before I finish the 9 season series :/).

I heard it wasn't the same, so I haven't watched it. Have you? How did you find it?
It was fine. The first episode left me wondering, but as it progressed, it wasn't shabby considering.

But one thing- you have to watch the last movie to get some of the implications of what's going on between them. I think that's why some people complained about it "not being the same." The series basically picks up from I Want to Believe and what happened after that. The other thing was after watching the finale episode of this series is "wtf, why didn't they use more episodes for the mythology—" That was MY biggest gripe- wasting so much of the 4 other episodes on random "monster of the week" stuff. I liked those episodes, but knowing what they did in the finale is just gah. But it's CC. It's what he does haha.

I've heard of some seriously whiner fans going on about this and that. It's fine. The ratings for it worldwide were utterly amazing and it's given Fox, and all involved, a huge boost to do it again, which is great. CC said he'd always been interested in doing something else, whether it be a movie or a continuation series, but it was getting Fox on board and constantly negotiating and the like.

But now that they've seen how it fared 14 years after the show ended (the second movie didn't do so well), I think everyone is more receptive. David and Gillian got a break after being burnt out and are more open to more episodes with this smaller series format, and Fox is like wow we could get moar monies from this.

You should just watch it and form your own opinion, tbh. There's always the overly hardcore fans who are going to whine about something. I've ended up watching season 10 like 2-3 times now. There's a lot of little things to catch in the episodes- "easter eggs" of inside jokes and sentimental stuff from the past (red speedo anyone?).

We watched it. We were big fans of the original, and for us, it hasn't disappointed. Loved the lizard man episode; it was like they were poking fun at themselves, which was a fun departure from to oh-so-seriousness of the original.
The funny episodes were some of the best overall, tbh. Seeing usually serious characters doing hilarious shit.

Did you know that the guy who played the animal control dude is a guy who started an X-files podcast? He'd been working his way through episides (each podcast is discussing an X-Files episode, and he's up to season 4 at this point). He even discusses some episodes with Darren Morgan and other guys behind the scenes. It's also how he ended up getting the role in the new series. There's even a podcast where he plays his recording of having a convo with David and Gillian on set while they were waiting to shoot some scenes- at their insistence. His podcast came up and Gillian insisted that he record the convo for the podcast haha.

The other thing I'm getting a kick out of from watching old episodes is seeing how many current celebs got their feet wet on the show. I just realized last night that Syzygy had Ryan Reynolds on it, and he looked 12 haha. I watched it last night and I'm like holy crap, that's Ryan Reynolds and he's like 12! Of course there was others like Seth Green, Shia Lebeouf, and Luke Wilson to name a few off the top of my head. The lolz.

I'm still catching up on the original xfiles. Will be back within 2-3 weeks.
2-3 weeks? Gawd damn. How many episodes are you watching a day?? Haha. I was doing the math of maybe 2 episodes a day and that's almost 4 months.

But then last night, I realized there's no watching "just" two episodes a day haha. I think I knocked out 5 last night. The fact that they're commercial free makes my day haha.

Knowing this, I could see myself knocking out the entire series in a month or two, depending. I may skip over the episodes I've been randomly watching.

I'll have to replay some of those old episodes. Might be a kick to see them. :-)

On a different tangent, if you haven't watched Fringe, it reminded is a lot of a rebooted X-Files. But with a different twist than the UFO angle. The first few episodes were sketchy, but we really got into that one too. Enjoyed it as much as the X-Files.

Let me more honest. I'm at the beggining of season 2. I also don't claim to be good at math... That being said.

When I'm done I'll so watch it and comment back : ) lol

I think on the weekends I could squeeze in 4 so that = 8 and on workdays... Maybe 2-3 after the gym. So.. Yeah. Still don't do math.
Haha. You'll be done when you're done. You've got 202 episodes to work through plus two movies, plus the 6 in the new series.

Is that the one with Josh Jackson in it?

I saw some episodes, but it didn't catch on for me. That chemistry between Mulder and Scully is what does it, tbh. That, and the mix of "serious" episodes vs the lighter and goofier ones.

The original XFiles was only good for a couple seasons, then it became real boring.
It was very good quality tho, first time a TV show had such technical quality, I remember being amazed that each episode was like watching a good movie in a cinema, this was a first in television.
This show really launched a new interest for quality TV. Before that, episodic TV shows were throwaway garbage, even the best miniseries of the time didn't really care about quality of picture framing and technical shit like that.
The fandom was HUGE. and yes it probably sent a few people in mental institutions.

But then, it didn't know where to stop. After a few years the scenarios were nothing but boring shit about mulder or scully's families and old stuff rehashed again and again, the interest dropped dramatically and soon noone was watching that shit. Pretty much the same fate as the Simpsons around the same time.

Yes, Josh Jackson. There's the same chemistry with him and his partner; it takes a while to develop. She was very wooden to begin with, which bothered me. But after a while she settled into her character and became much more believable.
