The fall of the ussr, like I said...

That's cool..

But in your opinion, which country contributed most to the defeat of Germany in 1945?

If the US had stayed neutral in the European theatre, Europe would have looked a lot different.

Yes, it would have looked red. Stalin would have arrived in Paris at some point and that is probably the main reason why the US intervened in Europe after five years. Otherwise, they could have simply enjoyed watching Hitler and Stalin destroying each other remotely at the east front, which was a smart move from the start.

But back to Chernobyl. I don't get all these comments here, I guess I missed something but I remember, when Chernobyl happened, our german government (I actually think the east german government too), ordered or suggested its citizens to not eat certain fruits, veggies and even meat for a period of time. I think many parents didn't let their kids go outside for more than a few hours. Can you imagine what it's like not being able to dip your chocolate-strawberry-banana in your caviar for dinner while watching Dallas? These were hard times 😢

First of all the decline of USSR started in war world 2 when 1 in 5 men died, secondly Chernobyl? How about the cold war and communism

I've never heard of Chernobyl being the reason for the decline, ever

But I'm willing to learn

Mikhail Gorbachev thinks so.

Or, you know.. look at the fall of the Communist party in France directly after WW2 and WAY before the Chernobyl disaster.

"Following the war, the PCF joined the new government led by Charles de Gaulle. Unfortunately for it, however, the U.S. government demanded a Communist-free government as a precondition for accepting the Marshall Plan. The French Communist Party was summarily booted out.

This did not prevent the PCF from channeling its wartime record into electoral success; from November 1946 to 1956, the Communists won a greater share of the popular vote than any other party. Their base lay amongst France’s working class, which remained a loyal and reliable constituency, and they constituted the dominant force on the French left.

This state of affairs could not last forever, however. After 1956, the French Communists entered a slow decline. With the slow, gradual destruction of the Soviet Union’s credibility in the West, the PCF – tightly linked to the USSR – reached a ceiling of support. Many French voters simply would never vote communist."
